You need to replace the brake transmission shift interlock solenoid. This may mean replacing the whole shifter mechanism. The solenoid the locks the shifter has failed and is stuck.in the unlocked position.

the Trac button disengages the Traction Control System. I think some engineer installed this button specifically for teenage boys. I would keep the traction button on as it will help you in bad weather to reduce the chance of wheel spin.

Try turning the steering wheel before turning the key. It may have been turned and locked prior to turning off the ignition.Good luck

Remove battery and battery support you'll be able to undo starter bolt's trough there and slip starter out.

There is recall to repair this so a visit to your friendly Chevrolet dealer is in order.
In the mean time, there is a 1" square rubber plug on the bottom side of the steering column near the tilt adjuster. Pry this out. Stick a finger into the open and feel around for a push button. It should be fully extended. Push this in and the key will now turn to the off position and you can remove it. I recommend that you just leave the plug out until you get this repaired as you'll being doing this a lot.
