My 1998 Buick Regal does not show the speed I am going. The needle won't move. I think I have to change the speed sensor and I don't know where it is located - in the transmission? or the engine?

We have a 1998 Buick Regal. When I drive in the road the speedometer doesn't show the speed at which I am going; the indicator needle doesn't move.

It could be a speed sensor which is a simple replacement or there could be something wrong inside the electronic control.

The starter was replaced, but the gas needle moved clockwise to the stopper. The gas needle move the other way around, passed the full mark. I think it is a change in polarity?

Hello: I have had that occur several times, if you will get a strong magnet you can pull the needle back around to the correct position. (leave key off) If that don't work you will have to remove the cluster, remove the clear cover from the cluster and carefully move the needle back to the correct position. (this usually occurs when you connect the battery with the key on. (DO NOT CONNECT BATTERY WITH KEY ON IN ANY VEHICLE)

Speedometer needle bounce when turn signal is on.

The speedometer sensor - VSS - vehicle speed sensor is a input to the PCM - powertrain control module -engine computer . The signal from the PCM to the instrument cluster for speed info. is sent on a serial data communication network (class 2 ) I would think it would be an instrument cluster problem . Get a used one from a auto salvage yard 15 - 20 bucks an see if it fixes it . If it does ,send your's out an have it repaired .

Speedometer wont move and the miles on the car wont show i changed the fuse still same problem (1998 Buick Century)

This could be the speed sensor in the transmission. I believe it is electric on the 98 takes about 15min to change and is located on the long end of the trans.
