After replacing a bad alternator and testing my battery my jeep worked for 2 days. Next day it wouldnt start and it seemed like the battery was dead because the interior lights were off and instrument panel was very dim. I jumped it and after letting it run for 30 minutes i turned it off to see if i could start it up. when i turn the key forward all the lights, radio, instruments etc. lit up brightly but when i went to start the engine it didnt turn over and all the lights went dim. i had the alternator and battery tested and they are both good. After reinstalling them there is a clicking coming from the interior fuse box and after locating the clicking relay i removed it and replaced but the clicking continues with the new relay. I do have an aftermarked stereo system that has worked without a hitch for 3 years so I dont know if that is a factor.
Your battery is dead.
It's not just having sufficient voltage in a modern vehicle, it's how many CCAs the battery has in reserve.
It requires a special tester to determine it's real state. (I use a Solar BA-7 tester to give an accurate reading of th ed battery). Its common to read 12.6 volts and still have a weak battery.
Having this EXACT SAME ISSUE on my 98 ZJ. Interior relays clicking. Weird thing was that my courtesy lights fuse triggered it too...thought it might be shorting out...not sure. Worked fine then just went to S...T on me
Bare or burned wire, most likely battery cable or alternator cable near exhaust system which might be making contact with a metal part somewhere, off and on, because of bumps, vibration, etc.
