Check for broken wires under the floor shifter at the BTSI connector..the 06 impala had shift solenoid problems often. If thats ok then...remove the negative battery cable and turn key to the on position...try to shift in to Neutral...if your are able to shift, the brake switch is faulty.
Good luck...i hope this helps, please rate me a fixya.

Sometimes the keyless entry systems get out of whack and the car won't shift out of park. Hit the unlock button twice and then try it. This happened to me twice in one month.

How do I get a stuck key out of an ignition lock cylinder on a 2006 chevy impala 3.9 motor

Does it go into the lock position ? Will the shifter go into the park position ? Is it a automatic transmission ?
Electronic Park Lock (EPL)/Ignition Lock Cylinder Control Actuator: If the vehicle is equipped with automatic transmission and a floor mounted console gear shift, it has an ignition lock cylinder control actuator system in the steering column. The ignition lock cylinder control actuator purpose is to prevent the ignition key from being turned to the OFF position when the transmission is in any position other than PARK and the vehicle may still be moving. The column ignition lock system consists of an ignition lock cylinder control actuator, and a park position switch that is located in the automatic transmission shift lock control switch. The ignition lock cylinder control actuator contains a pin that is spring loaded to mechanically prevent the ignition key cylinder from being turned to the lock position when the vehicle transmission is not in the PARK position. If vehicle power is lost, and/or the transmission is not in the PARK position the operator will not be able to turn the ignition key to the lock position and will not be able to remove the ignition key from the column.
There should be a hole in the bottom of plastic steering cover or a rubber cover that comes out . you can stick your finger up there an there is a button you push that will allow you to take out the key !

KEY WON'T TURN ON THE IGNITION

Hi Aldene, Your vehicle seems too young to have a problem with a worn key so I suggest that the problem was related to the position of the steering wheel and the tongue of the locking mechanism. Sometimes when the lock engages it is under the load of the weight of the front wheels, if they are not in the straight ahead position. A small movement of the steering wheel is usually enough to release the steering lock. Regards John

The shift lever is locked in park position...cant even press the button on it.What to do? (2006 Chevy Impala LTZ)

Take a look and see if the brake lights are working, the power to release the shift lock comes from the brake switch when you step on the brake the shifter is unlocked. i had a few of these that needed new brake light switches, first try starting the car and stepping on the brake pedal as hard as you can and then try shifting,if this works replace brak switch, next if that doesnt work check the brake light to see if they work if not or if so check all fuses even under the hood fuse box, hope this helps. here a picture of the shift release soleniod it on the steering column, dissconnect and slide by hand to release shifter until repaired.0b1056c.gif

Can't get it out of park

This can be from a stiff parking pin in the transmission, or the mechanism which uses the key to lock the selector in the Park position might not be working.

Can you turn the steering wheel? I am not sure whether the steering lock and the selector lock are closely related, but if neither disengages when the key is in the run position, that would seem to be diagnostic.

If the wheel unlocks, and the car is parked on an incline (which puts a stout physical load on the parking mechanism in the transmission), then pulling really firmly on the selector (try not to break it, though) can be helpful. Also, if you can get another vehicle downhill from the Impala, and push it a little to reduce the load on the parking mechanism, that can be helpful.

I can't shift my car from the park position.

mcdevito75 here, When you turn the car off the ignition switch locks the steering wheel, sometimes when you go to start the car it starts but you can"t move the shift lever due to the steering wheel being locked, try this, put the key in the ignition switch, turn the key and at the same time move the steering wheel, if you can move the steering wheel even a 1/2 inch that should free up the shift lever also.

My 2010 impala is starting, but the shift stick

It sounds like the Park/ Brake Interlock is not working, your car is a 2010 it should be covered under warranty still, take it back to the dealer and let them fix it.

Key won't go into the ignition

This is exactly what happened to my truck last night. The steering wheel moves freely. I had a hard time putting the key in the ignitition. The ignition will not turn. Neither will the shifter. It seems like it is not in park but then how did the key come out? My car is a 2004 Chevy 2500HD. Did you even get a solution to your issue?

2006 Chevy Impala stuck in park

When you turn ignition on it releases a cable that is attached to the shifter also the shifter has a solenoid attached to it that is released when you step on the brake. Both times that I had the problem of button stuck and cant shift out of park the solenoid was sticking and wouldnt release .
