SOURCE: 2000 Ford Contour Acceleration Probs between 40-55 mph

Transmission was initially misdiagnosed as being ok. The problem was the "range sensor", which showed up on the transmission shops diagnostic computer on a second look.

Replacement of the range sensor solved the problem. This was a $150.00 fix. Unfortunately a lot of other cash was spent because of the initial miss.

SOURCE: need to find gap setting for autolite spark plugs

The spark plug gap is usually on a sticker under the hood or in the owners manual. It is usually in the range of 0.045 to 0.060. Don't believe the guy at the parts store when he says the plugs are pre-gapped.

Contour died after starting - 3 times total - kept foot on gas until I got out on highway - ran fine. Car has started and run fine for the last 4-5 days, approximately 24 starts.

did u have a check engine elight? had you just recently gased up?, u may have had some water in the fuel, i would have a Autozone parts store test the system for trouble codes, tell them u need an OBD 2 test run, it is free, if anything is failing it should have set a code in the cars computer.
