Find where the click is coming from, that should be a small cylinder on the side of the starter motor itself. Use a small hammer and tap on the side of that cylinder a couple of times, being careful to not touch the red cable connected to the rear of it. If it then starts, you need to replace the starter solenoid.

Hi. If the click you hear when turning key to crank is from a relay start there. The fact you can hear the click means the ignition barrel is doing something and probably OK.

You can jump across the celonoid on the starter. If the engine turns over then your problem is either the celonoid or the starter switch.

SOURCE: where is the starter relay on a 94 Honda Accord

Yes, it sounds like your solenoid is bad and staying engaged against the flywheel, you could do an amperage draw and a voltage drop test to find out for sure, but you will need an DVOM and a amp clamp. Or you could take it into an auto parts store and they will test it for free. Hope this helps.

Ignition relay or fuse could be the problem. When you turn the key to start do you hear a fuel pump kicking on and or do you have spark when you hot wire the starter (I know it's hard to check while trying to start it)? You can email me back and I might be able to pinpoint it more.

I have a 2004 ford expedition that wouldn't turn over. All it would do is click at the starter. I replaced the starter and ground cable and it worked fine for 2 weeks. Yesterday it cranked fast and started...

Be sure immobilizer isnt activating. The anti theft light needs to go out and stop flashing when you turn the ignition key from off to run, otherwise no crank in start position.

Freelander unable to start at turn of key,

Does the starting solenoid engages? This is would sound like a deep clunk on your starter. When the solenoid engages it close the contact that energize the starter motor, but a worn contact on the solenoid would result in it engaging but not having enough current to turn the engine resulting in a clunking noise when you try to start.
The starter solenoid gets its 12 volt from a relay. This is referred to as the starter relay. If you try to crank, and you hear only a click but the starter do not turn, then the contacts on the relay maybe worn.
To sum it up, if you hear a loud clunk when it dont crank, its the starter solenoid. If you hear just a click but no crank, it could be the starter relay.

Engine will not start. Single click heard when

This problem relates to the solenoid and that should have been replaced with the starter. If it is a rebuilt starter the solenoid may have been faulty on it. Take it back.

2004 KIA RIO-ENGINE WILL NOT CRANK

I would guess starter fuse first, then starter. When you turn key, if you don't hear a click, you should focus your attention on the fuse first and then the starter. If you hear a click, then most likely (80%) its the starter solenoid. try to start the car in neutral to rule out the neutral safety switch...good luck

Car won't crank & makes a clicking noise when ignition is turned.

Is this the original battery? Have u had it tested? The no crank, clicking noise is classic dead battery symptoms, lights can still work, but not enough power to turn engine over. If it's the original battery, it's at the end of it's life cycle, and should be replaced. U can get the battery tested for free at any parts store.

Engine will not crank intermitantly

Crank sensor can translate heat. Not allowing restart after the turbo heat radiates in the area. Try a wad of aluminum foil in front of the crank sensor(on the block behind the turbo) . It protects it from heat and its a cheep test. If this works you can make a better sheild or leave the foil.
