SOURCE: Won't start or crank after wreck.

this is probably a safety. no explosion, shut down. check to make sure no wires were cut/damaged and look in the trunk for an emergency shut off. there might also be a shut down relay onboard. if there is it's under the hood in the relay box.

SOURCE: 1999 Continental will not start

Does anti-theft light come on for a sec then turn off when you turn on the key or does it flash with key on?
You said that CEL turns off while cranking, does it come back on if you continue to crank after about 8-10 seconds of cranking?
If it does not then your PCM is not seeing a signal from the crankshaft postion sensor. You can try wiggling the harness at the crankshaft postion sensor and see if it will start.

SOURCE: i was having problems with

I have worked on quite a few chevys and can tell you what I've found to work with this type of problem. When you replaced the starter, did you tug on the fusable links that connect to the solenoid to see if one of them was burned and loosing power? There are two or three short pieces of fusable link attached to wires that power the fuse block and other electrical circuits at the solenoid / battery cable connection that will stretch when you pull on them if they are bad. If they are, then you won't have power for the fuel pump, relays and other circuits to make the truck start.
If one is bad, cut the wire behind the link connection and put a **** splice and piece of wire on it with a ring terminal, and connect it to the solenoid. Turn on the ignition and listen for the fuel pump to buzz. The fuel pump is controled by the ECM and makes the pump turn on for 3 seconds to prime the system with fuel before starting the engine. One of the wires on the solenoid with a fusable link does this. If this works, your done.
If the truck won't crank when you try to start it, check the "S" terminal for power with a test light while someone turns the key. The "S" terminal on the solenoid comes from the ignition switch, to the neutral/backup / clutch switch to the starter. You'll have to check every point in between these for power to locate the problem. One bad connection or part will keep the starter from getting power to the "S" terminal. You can use a screw driver to test if the starter is working by touching the two terminals together.
While your under the truck, look at all the wires in the harness for any chafing or rubing, I once found a wire that rubbed through and was causing the problem.
Hope this helps, Craig

SOURCE: 2007 chevy cobalt cranks. won't

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the site. Have you checked for fuel and spark? The car needs air, fuel and fire to start. Since it is cranking, it is either fuel or fire. We need to test them both.

My 2003 chevytrailblazer motor did roll over but now it dont

Check Battery, if you try to charge or jump starter you may hear a click. If you're sure its a good charged battery then consider starter. Try to jump starter by passing switch, cross small wire to larger wire on starter (you may get sparks) (please be careful if you try this) this should make the starter spin & kick in turning the engine. If it only spins then its probably the starter solenoid. If this checks out then check ignition switch & harness connections. That's it..

My 2007 Chevy Cobalt will not crank, and will not start. I try to start it and absolutely nothing happens. What is this, and how do I fix it?

check for fuel pressure or listen for fuel pump operation in fuel tank when you turn ignition switch to on position for ten seconds. if no could have faulty fuel pump fuse or relay pump could have failed.if yes hear fuel pump running could have plugged fuel filter. if fuel system okay problem could be ignition system.have vechicle code scan look for fault codes.could have faulty ignition module faulty camshaft sensor or crankshaft position sensor.faulty PCM.

Chevy cobalt cranks but wont run above 10 mph

I doubt the security system would cause the problem.
Most systems prevent the starter from working as well as the fuel pump or injectors.
And once the starter cranks the engine it should not be involved.

Replaced the fuel pump on 97 dodge mini caravan now motor wont crank like the battery is dead. tried jumping it - nothing. All lights work bright! What did I do wrong?

I would check the starter for voltage first - there is a starter relay that is grounded by the PCM. If the ASD relay is faulty the pcm won't have power. You should have battery power to the starter and power on the solenoid when you turn the key to start.

2006 cobalt.replaed starter relay fuse all lights come on dash ect. fuel going to fuel pump but wont crank over

Are you positive the battery is good? Did you try to jump it ? Make sure all cables are clean and tight. When you say "won't crank over" do you mean the engine doesn't turn at all? If not, I don't know why you think the fuel pump would be the culprit. If it cranks and doesn't start, I don't know why you replaced the starter.

Disconnecting the battery doesn't reset the light. You need a scan tool for that unless you get lucky and fix the problem and go through enough cycles for it to go out on it's own.

Take it to Autozone or Advance or somewhere and have them read the codes. They do it for free for you. (They are hoping you will buy parts there) They can reset the light as well.

2007 chevy cobalt ls won't start battery good starter good turn key nothing no click nothing all lites work on dash and radio works jumped starter with screwdriver turns. Over but won't start...

Ignition relay or fuse could be the problem. When you turn the key to start do you hear a fuel pump kicking on and or do you have spark when you hot wire the starter (I know it's hard to check while trying to start it)? You can email me back and I might be able to pinpoint it more.

I was having problems with my starter on a 1993 chevy suburban k1500 4x4. replaced starter, still wouldn't start. replaced battery, fuel pump, sending unit and fuel pump relay. fuel pump fuse is good. ...

Confused as to why you are replacing things that crank the engine over, like the starter, and things that are just for fuel, like the pump?

Can't tell if it is cranking over or just not firing?

But if it is not cranking, then consider the ignition switch, neutral safety switch, engine ground strap, and battery terminals.

If you think it is not getting fuel, then try some starting fluid, to make sure it does spark at least.

If it does have spark and cranks, then you should put a gauge on the fuel rail. If there is no pressure when you try to start, then check voltage at the pump with a test light.
If none, then follow back to relay.
If none there, then try jumping at the relay, just for testing.
If that works, then it could be safety cutout system.
Some vehicles use an inertial switch, some use oil pressure switch, some use alternator feedback.

First unhook the battery for about a half hour to reset the computer.
does that have anti-theft on it.
a remote starter ?
second either swap the relays for the starter and fuel pump or replace them outright.
when you bypass the relay to get it to crank... will it start ?

Robert

if that radio is of the anti-theft variety make sure you know the code and how to enter it
