Some times it won't start. You have to turn the key slow to start.

Well if it is a 4 cylinder the timing marks would be small hole in camshaft lined up with little dot on head at 12 o'clock position and the crank with the pulley on should line up with 0 on the timing indicator. If it is a 6 cyl then the marks would be- camshafts both with dots up and lined up with indicaters on heads and crank timing mark on 0 with the harmonic balancer installed. Hope this helps.
SOURCE: 1996 toyota 4 runner 4x4 6cl key gets stuck in ignition, how do I replace ignition starter switch?
Just a thought , if the gear stick is not in park the key cannot be removed from the ignition I found out when I left the car in nuetral .

check the main fuses under the hood to see if any are blown
SOURCE: My 1990 Ford F250 won't start but has new starter, battery and ignition switch
Have you checked for 12 volts coming in going out of the the starter solenoid switch that is mounted passenger side fenderwell.
Testimonial: "No but that is logical; thanks! You can start the truck by 'jumping out' that same solenoid."
SOURCE: 1999 Toyota Corolla CE.
I had the same problem with my 99 corolla. It was the solenoid contacts in the starter...they were worn down and didn't either get enough contact or sometimes kind of melt togther (that's why starter spins even after you turn off car and key). Got new contacts and car starts like new!
IGNITION KEY WILL NOT RELEASE
It
can be faulty ignition lock cylinder. I suggest to wiggle the steering wheel
a bit and see if the key gets released out. If that is not helping
then first turn steering wheel to right and try removing the key, or next turn
steering wheel to left and see if you can remove the key.
----------
Spray
wd-40 in the ignition key hole and let it remain there for few minutes, after
that once again try to remove the key and see if that helps.
---------
But
if that is not helping then ignition lock cylinder has to be removed out and
key has to be manually removed.
