I think you need new ignition switch. not the whole ignition, but switch which is mounted to the back of the ignition cylinder. its a round white portion of the switch that has wires coming out of it and its attached to the ignition switch assembly. that white switch portion is what gives starter power to turn.

Try putting the car in neutral and starting. If its a manual trans it might be the clutch pedal safety switch or it may be something as simple as a loose battery connection.

SOURCE: My 1997 Nissan Maxima wont start.I tried jumping

First try turning on the headlights. If they don't come on or they are very dim then you may need to charge or replace the battery. If they are on then try to spin the engine over, watch the headlights to see if they dim when you try to start the vehicle. If they dim when you turn the key, add a set of jumper cable and try tapping on the starter with the jack handle while someone turns the key over (who ever turns the key over needs to hold it over until the vehicle starts). If the engine spins over then the starter is bad and will need to be replaced. If it does not it is possible that it is the electrical part of the ignition, park/neutral switch, relay or connections.

the immobilizer system is in lock mode. Sometimes cycling the key will bring it out of lock mode. Turn the key to the on position for 5 seconds, then off for 5 seconds for 5 times or more then recheck.
If that doesn't work you may be able to reset the control unit by removing both battery cables and touching them together for a few seconds. This procedure drains the control unit capacitors and they revert to their prelearned values.

"Warning Lights" on the dashboard of "1995 Nissan Maxima"

The warning lights coming on with the key in the on position is normal. If the key is turned to the start position and the engine will not crank over, suspect an internal starter motor problem or lack of power to the starter solenoid. You can try tapping on the starter motor with a blunt object while someone holds the key in the crank position to see if it starts when this problem occurs. If it starts using this procedure, the starter motor will be defective

Nissan maxima 3.5 2007wont start the key lights stay on

The most common cause of a non-starting car is the battery. It is either weak, (low voltage) dead, (zero voltage) or has bad connections. (corroded or loose) I will assume you have a fully charged battery with good connections. (both to battery and starter relay)
If you remove the starter switch lead (small wire) from the starter relay and apply +12v from the battery to its respective prong or lead on the relay, and your starter cranks, your starter switch is faulty. (not to be confused with your key switch). If you jump the two large wires together on the relay and it cranks, then the relay is faulty. If you jump the two large wires together and nothing happens, then starter is faulty, or wires to starter are loose or broken. Picture of starter switch prong on the relay is pictured. NOTE: sparks are to be expected, so don't be too scared

1998 chevy asto van wont crank or turn over

Turn the headlights on and watch them while the key is turned to start. If the lights go out, one of your cables or connections at battery or starter is not good. If lights dim a lot but stay on, possibly a bad starter, it needs testing. If lights aren't affected by cranking position, turn lights off, pull the small wire off the starter solenoid, hook up a test light to ground and to the solenoid wire. Light should come on when key is held in crank. If it does, likely a bad starter solenoid. If no light, then the start circuit from ignition switch to starter solenoid is not working. Check for power out of ignition switch on the start wire with key in crank, to begin with. If powered, switch is good, need to check if neutral safety switch is good, and then check or swap in a new starter relay.
Post back with any results.
Good luck.

96 Nissan Maxima. Has new starter. Wouldn't

Did you have the new starter tested befor you installed it? Was their a lot of corosion on the battery cables? The cables might be corroded as well cousing too much resistance for the starter to crank.

My car was a bit sluggish to start then 1 day wouldn't start nothing there at all tried it tem min later and it started and has been fine til the other day went sluggish to start drove to a few places then...

check/clean battery terminals, if ok check starter wires for voltage(while turning key to start) and tightening or corrosion. If all check out ok replace the starter. If you have no voltage at the starter check your relays and ignition switch. Hopefully this helps
