The key has a chip in it. Controls the ecm. You'll have to replace the original key or have a qualified technician to reset the ecm
If you lost the key and you have passlock security system, the key is just a mechanical key. It's the key cylinder/tumbler that communicates with the passlock system. No need to replace steering column. Just my opinion.
You could get a locksmith to make you a key that will work or get a key from local dealership. If the key is the problem? The key has no pellet and no transponder.
Is there a security system lamp on the dash that is on or flashing? Any applicable trouble codes?
There is a relearn procedure, 10 minute segments, about three segments for a total of thirty minutes. Did you do the thirty minute procedure? Ok the make is a chevy, I don't know the model, may not matter?

if the fuel pump cutoff was tripped it would not start at all, I know this for sure, I am a Ford dealer tech and I specialize in no starts and check eng lights. If the ignition switch is bad the 2 halves of the switch will be starting to come apart, it is very common, u should be able to either see it or feel it with your hand.

Sounds like a large vacuum leak, low fuel pressure, fuel pressure regulator failure, idle air control valve stuck open, plugged fuel filter. Also check for good consistent blue spark at spark plugs or jumped timing chain.Hope this helps!

check to see if the injectors are working, what engine do you have? and what kind of fuel pressure are you getting? check fuses for the injector circuit, if your fuel pump is working and you know your spark is good, the next thing to check would be the injector system

Replace the fuel pump...if you have already, then replace your fuel pressure regulator.
