I don't understand. The modern car, when it is well maintained should pass an emissions test all day every day except perhaps for a short time during warmup and that compliance is required by Law.

Authorities have the right to stop vehicles on the road to carry out an emissions test and the technology to monitor vehicle emissions covertly is sometimes used - complying with the Law in this is much more than simply passing an annual smog or emissions test.

Testimonial: "the cant get my car inspected because when the obd11 test is done it says that 2 more monitors have not completed their tests. therefore i can not pass because on 2001 and newer vehicles there can not be more than one test incomplete."

I am familiar with the way emissions are tested here in the UK but not the way it is done where you are - sorry. In the UK (and Europe) emissions are tested solely by exhaust gas analysis when the engine oil temperature indicates the engine is fully warmed. If it meets the standards for the age of vehicle no other checks are needed and if it fails and examination of the electronics are needed it can be retested as often as the customer will continue paying.

Get a scanner that shows all the sensors like Innova 3100 will show sensors that flashing or drive on the highway 60mph none stop for about half an hour that way all the O2 sensors will heat up the go through stop and go traffic for 15mins stop and shut off the car for ten mins start and go back home.then check again all sensors should be steady on not flashing.

SOURCE: emissions test comes up not ready - can't pass inspection

Under the hood, there is a fuse block. I believe it is on the driver's side of your vehicle. Open that box, and pull the "ECU" fuse. Leave the fuse out for at least 5 minutes. Put the fuse back in, start the car, and let it idle for at least another 5 minutes. Do not drive the car, touch the gas, or even look at the gas pedal for these 5 minutes, as the ECU is remapping itself. This will properly reset the ecu and clear the codes. After this you may drive the car.

If it's the indicator that literally says "service engine soon", and not the check-engine light, then you have no worries. That's programmed to come on at set intervals to remind you that routine service may be due soon (oil change, inspection, tire rotation, etc). It's not an indication of failure. Failures will be shown by the check-engine light. That one is nothing to worry about. Your owner's manual should have a procedure to turn it off.

SOURCE: What is drive cycle miles to make ready emission

a drive cycle is not measured in miles driven but in the type of driving done, here is a ford drive cycle procedure to clear the not ready code.

Ford Motor Company Driving Cycle Description of OBDII Drive Cycle
The following procedure is designed to execute and complete the OBDII monitors and to clear the Ford P1000, I/M readiness code. To complete a specific monitor for repair verification, follow steps 1 through 4, then continue with the step described by the appropriate monitor found under the "OBDII Monitor Exercised" column. When the ambient air temperature is outside 4.4 to 37.8°C (40 to 100° F), or the altitude is above 2438 meters (8000 feet), the EVAP monitor will not run. If the P1000 code must be cleared in these conditions, the PCM must detect them once (twice on some applications) before the EVAP monitor can be "bypassed" and the P1000 cleared. The Evap "bypassing" procedure is described in the following drive cycle.
The OBDII Drive Cycle will be performed using a scan tool. Consult the instruction manual for each described function. NOTE: A detailed description of a Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Reset is found in this section, refer to the table of contents.
Drive Cycle Recommendations:

  1. Most OBDII monitors will complete more readily using a "steady foot" driving style during cruise or acceleration modes. Operating the throttle in a "smooth" fashion will minimize the time required for monitor completion.
  2. Fuel tank level should be between 1/2 and 3/4 fill with 3/4 fill being the most desirable.
  3. The Evaporative Monitor can only operate during the first 30 minutes of engine operation. When executing the procedure for this monitor, stay in part throttle mode and drive in a smooth fashion to minimize "fuel slosh".
WARNING
STRICT OBSERVANCE OF POSTED SPEED LIMITS AND ATTENTION TO DRIVING CONDITIONS ARE MANDATORY WHEN PROCEEDING THROUGH THE FOLLOWING DRIVE CYCLES.

For best results, follow each of the following steps as accurately as possible:

I have a 2003 nissan xterra...can't get the idiot lights for the airbag and check engine soon to go off...and the keyless entry will not work, battery in the keyless has been changed and the vehicle has...

Take it to a different shop. Something is wrong with it. However, when the airbag light is on, that means the airbag will not deploy in an accident. You should have that fixed first. The dealership is the best option for making the keyless entry work. If this was at all helpful, please rate. Thanks for asking.

Replaced a flywheel sensor. Need to reset truck Nissan xterra 2000

i assume you are saying need to turn light out/ service engine soon light if so there are two ways you can hook to a scanner that has the ability to turn off light or you can unhook both battery cables from battery touch the two cables together for about 10 secs. reconnect to battery if the problem that caused the light to come on has been corrected the light will go out upon completion of drive cycle by touching the cables together you have drained the kam keep alive memory and light should go out

2005 Nissan Xterra (2wd) check engine light flashes then engine stalls at stop lights, driving fast or slow, puffs a little black smoke when check engine light flashes then stalls. Have to wait a minute...

Take it to a reputable independent repair shop that isn't a chain...that employees Master L-1 Technicians. Chain stores can barely change oil, let alone diagnose complicated issues.

2000 Nissan Xterra Service Engine soon indicator is always on

The knock sensor is not a huge deal to replace and will not turn on the light. It should be dont though.

The crankshaft sensor is located directly between the engine and transmission. It is dead center at the bottom.
