SOURCE: 1994 Buick Lesabre service engine soon light. Can't read code.

I found several shops in my area, Albany, NY that had the older code readers. It worked fine, and cost me $30.00. It showed a bad O2 sensor that I replaced myself. I suggest you go to a reliable shop. Auto Zone/Advance etc.. do not have the right code readers. Joe

26 is a quad driver failure, 41 is a cam sensor failure. I can give you a test procedure for 26 but for 41 you likely need to replace the magnet that is in the cam gear for the cam sensor pick-up.

SOURCE: How do I reset my Check Engine Light?

you could go to an auto parts store and they can reset it for you, or you could pull your battery cables off the battery and hold them together for about 10 sec. that will clear any codes.

Replacement of the fuel pump would be the case here, unless the fuel filter needs to be changed. To find out, remove the fuel filter, and blow threw it with your mouth, kinda tast bad but it will tell you if the fuel filter is restricted. You should be able to blow threw it easy.

You need to scan the computer for trouble codes. If the light was on, there must be codes set. On a '95 Buick, it would be OBD-1, On Board Diagnostics-first generation ('96 and later is all OBD-2).
The diagnostic connectors are different for OBD1 and OBD2, but in '94 and '95, GM was on some models using a "hybrid" diagnostic link connector. You will just have to find the right diagnostic connector to get your codes. The guys at autozone or a national parts store who do engine scans for free may help you figure it out. If it is a straight forward OBD 1 connector, a cheap code reader could scan for trouble codes. For the OBD1, you can also use a jumper wire between terminals
A & B of the diagnostic link connector. Turn key to on, and two digit codes will begin to flash on the check engine light. Code 12, for instance, would be a flash, pause, two short flashes, and longer pause before the next code appears. Code 12 by the way, just means that the computer is in diagnostic mode-after that any set codes will appear or be flashed. Code 55 may also be flashed-this code means the end of codes that are set.

Getting codes from a 2000 buick lesabre

Buy yourself a OBD-II code reader, V-Checker (online) or one from Harbor Freight Tools. $50-ish range. This will let you read the stored codes and even reset the check engine light, useful when the problem has been solved. In general the Check Engine Light doesn't reset itself. The computer knows something is operating out of specifications, sets a fault code within the computer's memory and illuminates the Check Engine Light to let you know something "flipped" when it should have "flopped". (That last part if just an electronics technician's joke derived from a chip called a flip-flop, used here with jocularity to indicate a malfunction.)

No, you need a OBD-II scanner to read the codes, most auto parts stores do it for free.
