SOURCE: Adding coolant to a 1998 Jaguar XK8

if the coolant light is on or comes on when driving you MUST let the car cool down at lest 1 hour before doing anything, after this cool down time lift the hood [u.s.a.] or bonnet [uk] looking from the front of the car on the right hand side towards the back of the engine compartment is the coolant header tank, about 5inch square black in color [u.s.a.] colour [uk] with a large screw top and some rubber pipes coming from it,this should be topped up with coolant right to the neck of the screw cap when you remove the cap to top up the coolant unscrew it slowly as it may be under pressure you don't want hot 212F[u.s.a.] 100C [uk] coolant in your face do you.good luck.

SOURCE: cooling fan relay 1998 neon

on the left(driver's) side of the lower rad support. It's a small flat relay with a plug on the bottom and usually has a blue colored front. held on by two screws. Also, there may be more rad fan relays in the underhood fuse/relay box.
Good luck.

SOURCE: my convertible top will not close lock and slow to come up

This is a VERY common problem with these xk convertibles. The most common is the fluid thickens up and the motor has trouble moving the top up and down. What you have to do is perform a convertible fluid flush, which is a pretty difficult task. Jaguar has updated fluid for this flush but it cost like 90 buck a quart, luckily you only need one but its pretty labor intensive. If your look at a dealership to perform this repair is pretty expensive.

SOURCE: 1998 jaguar xk8 convertible

The problem in my Jag was the hydraulic cylenders that raise the top. The seals in the cyl's leak by, and there isn't enough pressure to lift the top. No external fluid leaks, just internal to the cyl's. I had estimates from 2 shops to replace the units. $1,500 at both shops. I purchased the cylenders for $750 and replaced the myself. Required refilling the tank on the pump in the trunk, passenger sideb behind carpeted panel. Works like new again.
Good luck.

SOURCE: Where are the cooling fan relays for a 1998

Are you sure that you don't mean the cooling fan control module? It should be located up front next to the cooling fan. It is square shaped and has a long square shaped plug going into it. 00114_cooling_fan_control.jpgReads the temperature of the coolant and passes the information to the engine control computer (ECC). The ECC receives analog information and signals the cooling fan switch to cycle the cooling fan on or off, as required.

Xk8 Jaguar cooling fans do not come on at all. I have checked thermostat for engine. I have taken fans out and they work with a battery hookup. I can't sem to find a fan relay. Fan fuse is good. Car...

I had the same problem on my XK8 and I figured out that due to the age, this could be a failure of the thermostat. The thermostat is a valve that is closed when engine is cool and opened when it is warm. Quite often for being old is does not operate properly and the coling liquid is being blocked in one part of the circuit. The temperatuire sensor starts the high fan mode that keeps on all time.
A way to check on that is to see the behaviour of the cooling fans. If the high cooling mode of fan only appear after a few miles nd keep on going from this point it is very lickely a problem a thermostat that has to be replaced. Just have to purchase one in any internet reseller and get your mechanical shop to replace it.
