Truck engine stopped while driving - coasted into a mechanics' lot - they said it was the fuel pump & drove it into the bay by squirting something under the hood. They replaced the fuel pump & fuel filter - we drove it home (shut if off twice & it started OK) - let it sit a week and when we tried to start it, it would crank but not turn over. We tried the key on "ON" for 20 min. & then tried again - over & over - had the battery recharged 3 times to keep trying - read online that it might be a safety switch issue - don't know where to look to check for a safety switch. (The neighbor had the same trouble with her truck - took it to the same place - they did the same work & hers' wouldn't start either - it still stops while driving so I'm not taking mine back there - they charged me $400 to change the filter & pump!) Thanks for any help you can offer!
There is no emergency fuel shut off switch on your vehicle , ford vehicles have one , called inertia fuel shut off .
If they replaced the fuel pump an your still having the same problem i would check fuel pump relay and the electrical circuit for the fuel pump . Voltage drop testing the electrical circuit will show problems most people would attribut to a bad fuel pump , but it's not the pump.
Testing Electric Fuel Pump Problems with Voltage Drop Test
Fuel pump electrical circuit diagnosis no fuel pressure testing GM
I would take it back an tell them to fix it correctly . or demand your money back .

Sounds like the fuel pump is shorted.

Check your catalytic converter. If you are over 80k miles, these devices will wear in stages. The first stage of wear is slower gear change at cruising speeds when approaching any type of incline. Second stage is the engine light will reveal a faulty oxygen sensor. Because the converter is basically a "filter" built into the exhaust system, it wears by slowly clogging, which leads to no starts, no power, and sometimes a blown head gasket. If your mechanic removed the oxygen sensor before the converter, theres a strong chance it would start right up.

i had a similar problem and called the dealer during lunch hour. i talked to a mechanic, the distributor in these vehicles is plastic, and is prone to cracking.not just the cap but the body also, I have been taking the cap off and wiping the moisture out of the cap. or replacing the cap but the problem is I need a new distributor. just a cheep way to get rolling is cleaning the inside of the cap, especially when it is very damp or the outside temp changes alot during the day. good luck.

Hi there, on the mercedes the crank sensor goes bad frequently. Its between the transmission and the engine on the drivers side about 11 o'clock position. You will need a internal torx 8 to remove the small screw that holds it, once removed see if it has oil on it, if it does change the sensor and get ready to do a engine rear main seal job because its going to happen again but not too soon. Please buy a Bosch crank sensor and no aftermarket, its going to save you future headaches.
