2002 Dodge Dakota v-6 won't start the battery so good the starter is good it turns over and cranks but nothing happens I tried starter fluid in the carb.

Here are the usual suspects:
stuck fuel valve/float valve in the carburetor.
clogged fuel filter. or fuel line.
defective fuel pump.
electric fuel pump may be just a blown fuse, or wiring problem. good hunting.

!st of all unless you have the experience and the correct tools do not play with the high pressure side of the fuel system. The pressure that is created on the high side is such that will cause serious damage or fatility "Seriously". The system needs to be sealed for the pressure to occure if air is in system" no" presssure.
If lift pump is working(can you hear it?) Is it exiting fuel filter and arriving at inlet of high presure pump at correct pressure. (if not replace filter Use Genuine part. If still no good lift pump or power and earth suspect check. Any engine check lights on? if so use a code reader.(im assuming no light as you haven't mentioned it). If all is good to high pressure pump then you are looking from pump onward. Is this an issue that has just occured or have you purchased vehicle in this condition. Any unusal noises The high pressure pump is driven by camshaft is it actually turning the pump I have come across fractured cams or drives. if ok advise holden to check from here on there may be an electrical issue or injection issue possibly allowing air in system or shutting the pump down. You can check the whole sytem for visible leaks and vacuume connections. good luck.

How do you determine that fuel pump is bad? When I bypass the relay it starts ? I can hear it run ? Can it still be bad????any trouble shooting tip ?

It is impossible to propose a diagnosis without knowing the YEAR, MAKE, and MODEL of your vehicle.
That being said, check the fuel at the fuel rail. If you are getting adequeate pressure at the fuel rail (generally 40-50 p.s.i.), and the fuel pump is able to maintain the pressure, it is working. If insufficient pressure, check the operation of the fuel pressure regulator. If that is good, verify that the fuel pump is operating and that the fuel pickup strainer is not clogged with debris. If all is well, suspect an ECU failure or contaminated fuel.
Incidentally, it sure would have helped if you would have described the issue you were having that made you suspect the fuel pump instead of asking about the fuel pump.

I have a 2006 Chevy Colorado..Check engine light on and code 171 came up. Oxygen sensor replaced as was gas cap..Still on..What else needs repairing to fix this??

Fuel Trim Too Lean

Possible Causes:

The current cell can be observed using a scan tool.The system will go lean if an injector is not providing enough fuel.A lean condition could be present during high fuel demand due to a fuel pump not pumping enough fuel, plugged fuel filter or a restricted fuel line.Insufficient fuel in the tank or low fuel pressure may cause this DTC to set. Refer to Fuel System Diagnosis .Review the Failure Records with a scan tool. If an intermittent condition is suspected, refer to Intermittent Conditions .

sounds like you need new fuel injectors.

A 460 engine that acts like its not getting enough fuel. Will start but runs as if only on half the cylinders missing badly or such.

Check your running fuel pump pressure. If (as I suspect) it's too low, first try changing your fuel filter. After changing the filter, recheck the running fuel pump pressure. If still low, check you fuel pump pressure regulator. If OK, you may need a new fuel pump.

Also probably would be a good idea to replace you air filter.

you need to know what the fuel pressure at the fuel rail is (you can measure fuel pressure with a cheap gauge from harbour freight tools) it should be between
50-60 psi if not then the pump must be replaced
(gm replacment pumps are lifetime warranty )

There should be a Schrader valve on the fuel rail (looks like a valve stem on a tire, it is metal).

You need to connect a fuel pressure gauge to that valve and do the following test:

Relieve fuel pressure.
Remove the 12 mm sealing nut from the fuel rail. Attach the fuel pressure adapter nut, 12 mm (90201 - P0A - 003) and the special tool.
Start the engine. Measure the fuel pressure with the engine idling and the vacuum hose of the fuel pressure regulator disconnected from the fuel pressure regulator and pinched. If the engine will not start, turn the ignition switch on, wait for two seconds, turn it off, then back on again and read the fuel pressure. Pressure should be: 260 - 310 kPa (2.7 - 3.2 kgf/sq.cm, 38 - 48 psi)
Reconnect vacuum hose to the fuel pressure regulator. Pressure should be: 210 - 250 kPa (2.1 - 2.8 kgf/sq.cm, 30 - 37 psi) If the fuel pressure is not as specified, first check the fuel pump. If the fuel pump is OK, check the following:

If the fuel pressure is higher than specified, inspect for:
Pinched or clogged fuel return hose or line.
Faulty fuel pressure regulator.
If the fuel pressure is lower than specified, inspect for:
Clogged fuel filter.
Faulty fuel pressure regulator.
Fuel line leakage.
