On a 77' I'd go directly to switch & check for power there, if none, and your sure all the fuses etc have been checked and are o.k., take a good look at the door jamb area where harness is near hinges for a break or corroded wire in the loom that folds when door is closed & opened. See if you have power coming through that area.

Ive been told that gm can cut a key using the information in your vin number. I wouldnt know if gm would still have records from 1963 to help them cut a key but it would be worth a try.
SOURCE: what is the correct temp on a 1998 Cadillac DE
The normal coolant temp should be around 200-215 degrees.
The cooling fans will come on at around 225-228 degrees.
The most common overheating problem with the Northstar engine is a blocked purge line(small hose). The purge line is designed to purge air out of the cooling system.
There is a small diameter hose coming from near the top of the coolant tank (not the cap) ,this is the purge line.
With the engine idling, pull the purge line from the tank,if there is no coolant flow from this small hose,it is blocked and this will cause overheating.
If the hose is clear, check for blockage at the nipple on the tank.Or trace the hose back until you find the blockage.
The hose goes in to the engine to a crossover and comes out the other side close to the thermostat housing, the blockage may be there.
SOURCE: Cadillac 1989 oil change What is the best type of
Castrol 20w-50 in summer and 10W-40 in winter, is best in my opinion.
It is high detergent, to remove sludge.
The thinner oil, like 5W-30 is only for better mileage, but cause piston and camshaft wear.

Personally, for testing or replacement of the battery, I recommend the local Sears auto shop. They can check the entire charging system and, if needed, provide a most excellent battery. Yes, it is under the back seat (just like my 1965 VW beetle LOL).
