Replacing power steering belt for 98' eclipse rs -

Trying to change out power steering belt in 1998' eclipse rs. Get the belt on - but when we turn on car, the belt slightly shifts off just by hair...? what is happening? -

Also - about 2 weeks ago - My ac stopped working and car starting making a loud gurgling/grinding noise. Took the car to the shop, guy said ac compressor shot - to add - he only glanced at it and had me crank the car on and off.

A few days ago car starting squeeling on turns..we noticed the power steering belt really frayed on one side. Cannot recall having changed the belt since car was bought used in 2004.
Second question:
Would power steering belt have anything to do with ac - or vice versa?

If i remember right those belts are not together cuz your car has two belts on it one that goes from the crank pullel that runs the a/c and alt and then one thats from the crank to the power steering

you are wrong the p/s belt goes from the p/s pump crank and a/c where as the alt belt runs the alt crank and water pump

The mechanic who did the work may have gotten coolant on the drive belts or not sufficiently adjusted the belt tension . I'd replace the belt especially if the sides of the belt are shiny.

On my 98 expedition i see power steering fluid on ground so i look at my steering fluid area and its not empty so it must be a slow leek turn truck on i cant turn my wheel for **** belt still moving

does it get easier to steer when you give it gas?

You can hear the belts whine on my eclipse and when I turn my wheel either the power steering goes out at times, or sometimmes it causes my engine to rev. What could be wrong??

Replace your belt or you have a bad pully somewhere you just have to pop the hood and listen to each pully

The water pump is driven by the timing belt. If it has been over 100K, it is time for both to be replaced. If it is the drive belts, be sure to use factory belts, and use the proper tension.

My 98 eclipse is making a screeching noise in the engine

1.Most likely alternator belt is not tight enough or need new one.2. A/C-Power steering belt is loose or need new one. 3. Bearing in A/C-Power Steering Tensioner is going bad. 4. Not the water pump unless you are loosing water all the time. Timing belt runs the water pump & you need to tear down the engine. If so ,you would need to replace the timingbelt,tensioners, and maybe the hydraulic tensioner. NOT FOR $300, more like 5-600. Get yourself a Haynes Manual for 95-99 Eclipse at AUTOZONE,Advanced Auto, or Pep Boys and read up on this.
