hopefully you didnt use too much starting fluid. you dont want youre rx8 to be a crack baby. but as ardyrr said it is common for plug fouling and packs going bad. check packs for discoloration on the back side. if present, replace packs. if plugs are fouled replace them too. wires are probably damaged too or next in line to go. and when replacing parts please use oem or performance parts. cheap aftermarket parts will only cause more problems in the near future.

Sounds like the ignition system is not firing the spark plugs if starting fluid and gasoline doesn't solve the problem.
Verify by putting a spark tester on one of the spark plug boots and attaching the spark tester to the engine block or ground.
SOURCE: 1997 pickup w/4.3l. Why do I have to spray starting fluid to start it?
It used to be that the classic cause of hard starting was that the engine timing was off. That's less likely in modern engines but you could check it, and the spark plugs' condition.
