What would cause my 2005 Chevy Cobalt to have to be placed in reverse, then to drive to get the vehicle to accelerate?

My 2005 Chevy Cobalt is acting up. Every time I start it up and take it from park to drive and place my foot on the pedal to accelerate the car just rolls and does not accelerate. To get the car to accelerate I have to place it in reverse then into drive, it stalls a moment then begins to accelerate.

Some problem in the valve body most likely. Do you get any fault codes when you scan the engine/transmission control module?

This is only a suggestion, if you used the cruise control lately, better have that checked, it might be stuck in the on position

SOURCE: throttle/Idle/running problem - wants to run too fast, or stall out

RPM's up and down check EGR valve and sensor. EGR valve and sensor control idle. That's why your getting the surging on rpm's and this could be giving out the other codes. If mass flow was bad car will not start and the same for the map sensor. O2 sensor measures gas and air for right mixer. TPS controls 0-60 speed as in throttle respons.

It sounds like the technician ether unplugged or damaged your idle air speed sensor. I would return the cherokee and file a complaint. Armed with the knowledge of the possible problem you may come out of this with the job done correctly. Hope this helps. Good luck cj2176.

2009 Chevy cobalt when you put the car in reverse it blows the fuse to the ignition module and then won't start.

What engine does it have . 2.0l , 2.2l or the 2.4 l ? What fuse exactly blows ? Your vehicle does not have an ignition module .What fuse box is the fuse that blows in ? under the hood or BCM under the right side of the center console . No matter what you have a electrical short circuit when you place the gear selector in reverse . Your best bet mite be to have a qualified repair shop check it .

How to change headlamp bulb on a 2005 chevy cobalt

Its hard to fit your hand in the small space so best to remove the 2 bolts on top 10mm that are holding the headlight in place. The from the side, pull/pop the headlight assembly forward and out from behind the front grill area. Once its out, you can easily turn the retaining collar and remove the bulb. Be sure not to touch the glass of the new bulb or the oils from your fingers will create a hotspot and shorten the bulb life. Replace in reverse order.

My 2006 chevy cobalt wont run in drive it dies but will run good in reverse

On some old Buicks and Oldsmobiles the overdrive would stick on. A bandaid cure for them was to unplug the cable under the hood, but you no longer had overdrive. I heard that changing the transmission fluid would clear that up. There's no overdrive in Reverse.. placing the car in 1st or 2nd gear could bypass o/d also if they don't use the same gear set. Once up-to-speed, place the car in Drive. This only works if the reason the car dies is it can't accelerate in that high a gear at such a slow speed.

How do I change o2 sensor on 2005 cobalt

Hi, place the Cobalt in "Park" on a level surface. Allow the Chevy to sit for 10 minutes. This will allow components to cool enough to touch but still be warm, which is ideal for replacing the oxygen sensor. Open the hood of the Cobalt and identify the oxygen sensor. Look for a white, rubber, plug-type sensor on the passenger side of the exhaust manifold; this is the oxygen sensor. Use a socket wrench paired with an oxygen sensor socket to loosen the sensor. Turn the wrench counter-clockwise until the oxygen sensor is loose. Remove the sensor from the manifold by pulling it off. The sensor will come off without much force. Insert the replacement oxygen sensor onto the manifold. Secure the sensor by pushing it into place until the sensor clicks. Close the hood of the Cobalt.

2005 Chevy Cobalt lights turn off

automatic headlights are controlled by a photo sensor on the dash located in front of the Instrument cluster. to test the sensor try covering it and see if the headlights come on. faulty wiring in the circuit could also cause this problem. the headlights and the radio are wired together and the "auto" function will cause the radio to get brighter when its dark out, thus the combination of problems.

2005 chevy cobalt check engine light on

i went to advance auto and they pulled the check engine light code and they said it was just wet electrical equipment from all the rain we have had and that it would dry out in a couple of drives so they reset the code and told me to come back in if it comes back on.
