I have a 2017 Subaru Crosstrek, brand new car but when I tried to shift it into Drive it doesn't simply shift. i tried disconnecting the battery and resetting everything but still deosn't work. Anyone has any idea what's wrong with it? Please help, TY
The car has a brake light circuit powered transmission Park shifter lockout solenoid, so if the brake lights are not working when the pedal is pressed the car will not come out of park. Check the brake lights first. Also the owners manual should have a set of instructions to bypass the part lock, it varies with each car but some you turn the key to just short of the on position and wiggle the shifter while doing that, others there is a button hidden on the shift console
This answer saved us a $150 towing bill! Wife's 2016 Crosstrek was locked in park and making her late for work. While she was on hold with the towing company, I found this, followed the suggestion and got her out of the driveway before the tow truck was dispatched. Awesome service!
