I had a reduce power traction fault on my 2004 Colorado and it was spitting and would only go about 10 mph. The check engine light stays on when truck is off.

Truck restarted after removing battery cables and light was off but is back on now.

SOURCE: Reduced power code comes up and my truck stalls.

I had the same problem, and the solution was cleaning the throttle body, it does need to be completely removed to be cleaned thoroughly. I just used some brake cleaner on a rag to clean off all the carbon deposits. A friend of mine who is a dealer tech had only seen this trouble code once, and this was the solution. So far, my light has not come back on and the truck is running alot better at idle.

SOURCE: reduced engine power

hi there my name is don i will try to help you on this
when your reduced engine light comes on that means there is a active fault code in one of the sensors that is cusing this
you will have to get it scanned or retreive the codes from the dash

once you shut it off and turn it back on it temporarly resets until the diagnostics go through it again and it will reduce the power to the engine
it could be something simple like a gas cap or tire pressure but you will have to get it scanned to find out
thanks
don

DTC P1516 Throttle Actuator Control (TAC) Module Throttle Actuator Position Performance

Your vehicle has an electronic throttle body unit so it uses voltage signals to control throttle blade in the throttle body. There are a few different issues that can cause this problem.

First off there is a update for the PCM to address those codes, but you will have to take it to the dealer for that.

Second there is issues with the actuator on the throttle body binding up and causing the codes.

Third there is a yellow wire coming off the throttle body connector that breaks inside internally and cannot be seen to the naked eye. The best way to test that is to grab the wire about 5 inches from the connector and tug if it feels spongy or breaks, that

Reduce Engine light on; battery light on; low charge from charging system; vehicle won't run faster than 30 mph

You may have damaged the ECM with a power surge from shorting out the alternator. Try to reset the CPU program using a code reader and look for fault codes while you are at it

Reduced engine power

Your vehicle seem to have gone into limp home mode. You need to have the fault codes pulled to know what is wrong. Limp mode lets you get home but limits engine output function.

Other people I've read about have this problem which may be attributable to a bad PCM connector or even bad gasoline (I've read).

One person had a random fault code that went away with driving.
They only had 4600 mi. on their vehicle.

Good luck on this one.
