My 1987 VW Cabriolet will run great cold but once it is up normal operating temp, if I am in stop and go traffic, the car starts to hesitate really bad then will stall. I can drive on the highway all day long with no problem but once I start coming to red lights and having to stop, it acts up and stalls. After about 15-20 minutes I can restart and get home. Any answers?
I have same problem (87 1.8 Carb Clipper), thought it was rust from fuel tank getting in Carb, changed the tank and fuel filler pipe but still have problem (but not as frequent). I'm gonna get it tuned (mixture and timing etc), also try fuel pump relay and check choke.....fingers crossed.
I have the exact same problem with mine! it could be a bad fuel pump
Sounds like a problem with the carb ,it needs a good clean out
U carb choke might be worn its sounds like its choking its self
