SOURCE: push rod diagram

Found on the web, not sure what you mean about pinholes, the push rods spin freely when they are in the engine.

I am replacing the head gasket on my 2000 pontiac grand am 3.4L engine. The push rods got mixed up and i need to know if the shorter rods go on the intake or exhaust side?

As you assemble things, it will become obvious as to whether you're attempting to put in a wrong length push rod. If it is wrong, it will appear that you need to adjust the rocker arm way different than it was originally to make it work. They just will not readily interchange. I think you'll do just fine.

On the 3.1L engine in the 1999 Chevy Malibu, I need to install the intake and exhaust rocker arm and push roods.

The exhaust push rods are the shorter of the two, the intakes of course are longer. The rocker arms should have been keep in order removed but they are the same for intake and exhaust valves. Torque to the rocker arms to 13 foot pounds.

How do i remove lifters in 02 impala

Your push rods are different lengths. The intake push rods are the shorter ones and are marked with yellow paint. The exhaust push rods are marked with green paint. Double-check to make absolutely certain that you have them all in the correct position. (failure to do so will cause IMMEDIATE severe engine damage when the starter is cranked.)

Other than that, it is common for the lifters to leak down when the engine has been disassembled. I have even had several that made it very hard to start and "clattered" for like 5 minutes after starting the engine. It will be OK when the lifters pump back up.

98 oldsmobile achieva front head push rod order

You are thinking too hard.

It is VERY simple. The Intake valve push rods (marked with ORANGE paint) are shorter than the exhaust valve push rods (marked with BLUE paint) If you cannot see the paint, you can always stand them up next to each other...it is pretty obvious which ones are which.

BOTH heads are EXACTLY the same - they are interchangeable. It is just that one is turned one way and the other is turned the other way so the exhaust and intake ports will be on the correct sides. (intake port towards the center of engine, exhaust port to the outboard sides of the engine.) You do not need to go searching the internet for some "order". All you have to do is LOOK AT THE HEAD to tell which valve is intake and which valve is exhaust.

So then it is as simple as: Put the short push rods on the intake and the long push rods on the exhaust....

We replaced intake gaskets and now its making a loud knocking sound

Good day
which intake gasket need you replace upper or lower, did you remove the push rods if so did you put the right ones in the right place. intake push rod will be marked orange and are shorter, exhaust push rods are marked blue. it almost sounds like you might have put an exhaust into a intake.
hope this helps please let me know if this is not the case and we can go from there

Cheers
