Back pressure test the exhaust system .pull out a O2 sensor an screw in a back pressure gauge , or you could hook up a vacuumn gauge. You mite want to take it to a repair shop an have it done .

watch this .A plugged cat will cause MAP sensor false code .

Catalytic plugged how would you check that

  • solver2010 May 11, 2017

I personally would drop the exhaust header pipes off the exhaust manifolds, then start the engine ... but it would be loud!

  • Jeff Armer May 11, 2017

Plus could break header bolts , rusty !

  • Jeff Armer May 11, 2017

Hooking up a vacuum gauge would be easiest !But you probably don't have one

What engine is in the Sebring? It could be camshaft timing off because of a bad timing belt (or chain), it could be a failing fuel pump, or a clogged fuel filter, it could be clogged or blocked air intake, or clogged exhaust system ... and on and on we go!

  • solver2010 May 11, 2017

The map sensor does not sense aerial pictures of roads! MAP stands for "Mainifold Absolute Pressure," which is used for adjusting the air-to-fuel ratio, which will not let the engine run right if the MAP sensor is defective! The throttle body controls the amount of air coming into the engine. The TPS (throttle position sensor) is another control which must be working right ... but they often go intermittent!

  • linda bernal

Map sensor and connector has been replaced throttle body has been cleaned and so has the maf sensor

  • solver2010 May 11, 2017

How did we jump from MAP sensor to MAF sensor?

  • linda bernal
    linda bernal May 11, 2017

Just cleaning as much as possible

  • linda bernal
    linda bernal May 11, 2017

So would a bad throttle body cause my problem

  • solver2010 May 11, 2017

That seems unlikely to me. The engine runs, but not very high RPM, is that correct? Is it difficult to start, or does it run better without a load on the engine (such as in neutral or park)?

  • linda bernal

    Car starts easy

  • linda bernal
    linda bernal May 11, 2017

Can Rev it to 3 or 4000 a few times then it will not Rev at all with the pedal on the floor

  • solver2010 May 11, 2017

Try removing the air cleaner filter. Is it damp or wet? Will the engine run okay without the filter installed? DON'T drive it like that, at least not very far or long! But the real question is, does the engine run okay without the filter?

  • linda bernal
    linda bernal May 11, 2017

Seems like the 2 codes went away after replacing the map sensor and securing the plug to the throttle body

  • solver2010 May 11, 2017

I would plan on taking that throttle body back for a refund!

  • solver2010 May 11, 2017

I once worked on a Plymouth Breeze that did about the same thing. So, I put a CURRENT METER in series with the electric fuel pump. The fuel pump would start out at some current level, but the longer it ran, the less current it would take ... until it stalled out altogether (which took about 3-5 minutes). The whole time, the fuel pressure was falling ... and falling, until the engine stalled because of lack of fuel pressure! Has anyone CHECKED your fuel pump current draw lately? Power window motors sometimes do the same thing! You could roll them down, but going up, they would go slower and S-L-O-W-E-R until they would stop ... but would go again after cooling off a while! So, being as curious as I am, I analyzed the power window motors, after taking them out. The problem was, when the motor brushes are mostly worn down, the brush pressure exerted by the springs falls of to near zero, as the brushes get warm! It's the same story with electric fuel pump[s!

How can I check the throttle body

  • linda bernal
    linda bernal May 11, 2017

So if the fuel pump was failing it will eventually stall

  • linda bernal
    linda bernal May 11, 2017

No haven't checked the fuel pump yet

  • linda bernal
    linda bernal May 11, 2017

Crazy how it idles pretty smooth revs a few then nothing with pedal on the floor

  • linda bernal
    linda bernal May 11, 2017

    This is quite frustrating

  • solver2010 May 11, 2017

Just pull the fuel pump relay, and bypass around the removed relay contacts using a current meter connected to two unused spade connectors that give you something to connect to. You won't even have to jack up the car, or crawl under it ... unless the fuel pump is stalling out!

2002 Chrysler Sebring 2.7 liter... When the car starts, I can only bring the RPM's up to 3000. when I've reached 3000 rpms the RPM's start going up and down...I have replaced the fuel pump what should I...

Nothing, you have hit the rev limiter. The up and down is the computer controlling the rpm. If you drive it, it should rev past 3,000. The computer is designed to keep free wheeling rpm to that level. It will only allow a higher rpm if vehicle is in gear and moving with a load.

2007 chrysler sebring will start but cuts off

Do you have a check engine light on ? Common problem with Chrysler is the crank sensor, won way to check is with a scanner, connect to dlc, and goin to live data stream and watch your rpm if you have no signal while cranking that's your problem, another possible cause could be your anti theft system , is your security light blinking ,staying on or not coming on at all?

It will be very much appreciated if you could send me the information about how to replace the O2 sensors on a 1998 chrysler sebring convertible.

Hello, Eventually your Chrysler Sebring's oxygen sensor will go bad and need to be replaced. The oxygen sensor regulates the oxygen-to-fuel ratio in your vehicle. It also controls your gas mileage. It senses when more or less oxygen needs to be pumped into the fuel lines. If it fails, your Sebring will run poorly and won't get very good gas mileage. Knowing how to change it yourself can save your money. Here are the instruction to change o2 sensors.
Locate your Sebring's oxygen sensor on the pre-catalytic converter. This is located near the front right wheel well of your vehicle. Apply some anti-seize paste to the threads of the new oxygen sensor. Be careful not to get any of the paste on the sensor itself, or it will be ruined. This makes for easy removal of the sensor next time.Remove the old oxygen sensor, using the 7/8-inch wrench. Find the stock sensor wire near the engine-loop lift. This will be by the firewall of your Chrysler Sebring. Splice the stock sensor wire and connect it to the new oxygen sensor's wire, using crimp connectors.Remove the large air-intake pipe that runs from the air box to the rear turbo. Then remove the two smaller air pipes that run from the air box to the blowoff valves. This will give you access to the oxygen sensor. Soak the old oxygen sensor in WD-40 to loosen it. Screw in the sensor by hand. Use the wrench to fully tighten the oxygen sensor so it cannot be removed by hand. Replace the air pipes to the correct valves again.

The eng. will not go over 2000 rpm

disconnect the throttle cable from the throttle body and try to rev the engine

if still cannot rev past 2000 then suspect MAF (mass air flow sensor) or the throttle body...remove the snorkel and check to make sure the throttle plate is moving freely

finally, if when the accelerator cable is removed and rpm's rise above 2000 then suspect the accelerator cable and/or gas pedal

I have a 2000 Chrysler Sebring that wont idle. The car starts and will run only if I step on the gas pedal.

clean the IAC. Use spray carb cleaner and spray the idle air control valve. It is on the throttle body near the throttle plate. It may have become stuck with deposits.

Clean the throttle body as well. Check for vacuum leaks
