My info shows you have passlock security system. The key is just a mechanical key, the key doesn't have a pellet or transponder. A locksmith should have been able to make you a new key and it should have worked fine. It's the tumbler that communicates with passlock, not the key.
Since you busted it, I doubt I can help. You need a new lock cylinder, probably a new passlock sensor, then you need to program it.

if I get another tumbler and pass lock sender from the same car would I still have to program it even with every thing from together when I put in my car

In my opinion, yes. You can try it if you want? I'm thinking, you will have to communicate with security system to get it to work.

SOURCE: anti theft system

The chip is in the key. Either the key has lost it's program or the transceiver is not recognising the key. Try another key if you have one.

it sounds like the immobilizer is faulty. this will shut off the electrical feed to the starter motor. you will need to take it to a garage to get this fixed.

hope this helps.

SOURCE: 97 sunfire tried turning key

This 10 minute re-learn process only works if there is a small Hiccup or Glitch in the system. If that 10 minute trick did not work, it means that some part of that antitheft system is legitimately failing and would need to be fixed or bypassed. This link offers 2 different ways to bypass the system. Ive done both of these bypasses dozens of times, they both work and will not hurt the performance of your vehicle http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/

2007 dodge nitro....has power...everything works....won't start...key fob is dead....replaced the battery in the key fob...still won't work? Any suggestions?

Try this

To fix the Dodge Nitro anti-theft mechanism, you will insert the ignition key and turn it to the on spot, and then attempt to start the engine (crank over), the engine does not run. With the key still in the run spot, wait 10 minutes, and the safety light will flash and then go out.

How do I reset my Dodge anti-theft system?
To deactivate the anti-theft system so that you can drive your vehicle normally once again, the steps are simple:
  1. Place your key in the ignition of the vehicle.
  2. Do not attempt to crank up your truck.
  3. Allow your key to sit in the ignition for 60 seconds. ...
  4. After 60 seconds have passed, start your vehicle as normal.

97 olds 88 runs rough first few seconds, when you shut it off it will not crank. Had the ignition control module tested and says that it is good. Any ideas?

Will not crank how ? When you turn the key to the start position does the starter engage and spin the engine ? , A crank no start condition . Or nothing happens . A no crank - no start condition . I assume by your statement ( Had ignition control module tested ) That you have a crank no start condition . in which case have you tested input from the crank sensors to the ICM and PCM . What engine does your Old's have ? 3.8 L
Is there spark at the coil's ? Pull plug wires off of the same coil , have someone crank the engine over , Is there a spark jumping from one coil tower to the other ? If so , you don't have an ignition problem , fuel more then likely . Is your SECURITY light lit on the instrument cluster , if it has anti-theft .

My 97 sunfire starts but shuts off...... if we put gas in the intake it will run....we have tried everything someone please help........

Is your security light staying on? If so, I would expect one of the small wires that go from the ignition lock cylinder down the column and connects to the VATSS anti theft system has broken and the computer is unable to read the chip in the key.

Pontiac

Hi Paul, here's how to reset your system.
  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON. The vehicle will not start.
  3. Observe the SECURITY telltale, after approximately 10 minutes the telltale will turn OFF.
  4. Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds.
  5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 two more times for a total of 3 cycles/30 minutes. The vehicle is now ready to relearn the passwords on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK.
  6. Start the engine.

Can you help me, anti-yhief cut power to engine and it won-t start back up

Do you have the year make and model.? If it is a anti theift with a key immobilizer the vehicle will just start and idle for a few seconds then shut off and the anti theft light will remain on or be blinking. Then we know you are dealing with the anti theft. do you have another key to crank the engine if you do use a spare key and hold the key next to the immobilizer and crank the engine see if that will give if it doesnt try this method. roll the window down with window down disconnect the negative battery cable wait 5 minutes reconnect put the key in the ignition but dont crank it just yet turn it in the on spot not the crank for 2 minutes then crank it and see if that start the vehicle . If this doesnt work then you will need to call a mobile locksmith who reprograms the immobilizer

Car starts run's 3 seconds shuts down

Your car is equipped with a system called PASSKEY standard on all GM cars and light trucks, try the following procedure to reset the system, the battery being dead will trigger the system.

PASSKEY LOCKOUT RESET GM CARS 1999 UP
1) Put the key in the ignition and turn to the "ON" position. Leave it that way for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes turn the key and take it out. Repeat this process (2) more times (3 times, 30 minutes total) This should reset the passlock system to recognize your key.
