I have a 98 Bravada with the 4.3 motor. What other years engines would interchange?

No, that would never work. Nowadays, always use an engine from the same year, or you will run into all kinds of headache with electrical hook-ups and other modifications. Only engine of exact same size and same year-the engine computer is designed for that.
It is possible other years for a 1993 explorer might work, but not any engine manufactured after 1995. That's a whole different project. Any salvager could tell you which years interchange with the '93 model, but it's a small window. And if you change engine size, more modifications than you could imagine.

Any 4.3L from a chevy blazer, gmc jimmy, olds bravada. years 1996-2005.

Bad idea to try a different sized motor on that. Everything on the truck is set up for the engine that is on it. All the wiring, the computer-everything electronic. If you went with a bigger motor, the front suspension will also have to be beefed up, as it will be heavier than designed in the front.
Honestly, best and most easiest is to swap in another 4 cylinder motor just like yours, and preferably an engine of the same year-then you won't have problems with electrical connections, with parts in a slightly different place, or any other modifications.

A local salvage yard should have the interchange book to tell you for sure.

On a Bravada, the engine is positioned so that you have 4 cylinders on your left and right in an 8 cylinder, and 3 on each side in a 6 cylinder. If you look on each side you will see separate valve covers, About 4 inches below these covers are where your spark plugs go in. They will be between your exhaust pipes, where they mount to your engine.

most all body and interior parts will interchange 96-99. engine however is different, you can put a SOHC engine into another car made for SOHC. you cannot put a DOHC engine into a saturn made for the SOHC engine or vice versa. the transmissions have different gear ratios. and the engines changed between 98 and 99 so you may have some problems swapping between those years.

I would also check with any salvage yard they will be able to tell you.

most parts from 90-95 will interchange. also, alot of parts from the pickups during those years are interchangeable with the 4runner.

sorry but your stuck with the 4l60e if you want it to be right. as for using the bravada transmission thats fine you just have to use your transfer case. your transfer case uses a switch on the dash and an electric motor on the transfer case. the bravada uses a series of sensors on the front and rear axle that sense wheel slippage and send a signal to the electric motor on the transfer case causing it to lock in four wheel drive. when the sensors dont sense wheel slippage any more the system returns to two wheel drive. that,s why they call it smart track. just unbolt your transfer case from your transmission and bolt it to the bravada transmission and install it. p.s- dont forget to at least change the front pump converter seal. for 4 or 5 bucks it,s cheap insurance against a major leak and i dont think you want to pull that transmission out again and yes i saw that happen to many times. good luck.-G.J.M
