Who decides when the "service now" light goes off? I have a 2007 VW Eos and would like to know whether the service light is programmed at intervals, or if the dealer can set it to go off in 5K miles.
Generally the interval is preprogammed from the dealer computer which is preset. in certain countries the oil change setting may be more regular due to weather condition eg cold countries need thiner oil in the winter so they change the oil at different intervals.
the timeing should correspond with your service manual where your dealer should stamp in the millage covered and which serivce was carried out. check that your sevice manual that came with your car corresponding with your car indicator if they are pulling a fast one i would change dealership.

To clarify, I want to know who sets the interval for when the service light comes back ON after being cleared. If I go to the dealer for an oil change, and they clear the service light, does the dealer tell the car to turn the service light back ON in 5K miles so that I come back for another oil change, or is the car preprogrammed by the manufacturer to turn on the service light at certain intervals?
