P 1401 location

Codes don't have a certain location, a code means a problem has occurred in a system of the electronics of the cars fuel control or emission control system.
P1401 NISSAN - EGR Temperature SensorPossible causes- EGR Temperature Sensor harness is open or shorted
- EGR Temperature Sensor circuit poor electrical connection
- Faulty EGR Temperature Sensor
- Malfunction of EGR function, EGRC-BPT valve or EGRC-solenoid valve
- Blocked EGR passages When is the code detected? An excessively low voltage from the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) temperature sensor is sent to Engine Control Module (ECM) even when engine coolant temperature is low, or an excessively high voltage from the EGR temperature sensor is sent to ECM even when engine coolant temperature is high.
P1401 NISSAN Description The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) temperature sensor detects temperature changes in the EGR passage way. When the EGR valve opens, hot exhaust gases flow, and the temperature in the passage way changes. The EGR temperature sensor is a thermistor that modifies a voltage signal sent from the Engine Control Module (ECM). This modified signal then returns to the ECM as an input signal. As the temperature increases, EGR temperature sensor resistance decreases.
This sensor is not used to control the engine system. It is used only for the on board diagnosis

1998 nissan maxima runs hot, replaced the thermostat and at times gauge still register hot, what else could cause this?

Its possible that your problem also stay in the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor resistance changes in response to engine coolant temperature.

Keep in mindthat the sensor resistance decreases as coolant temperature increases. This provides a reference signal, which indicates engine coolant temperature, to the ECM.

1989 Nissan Maxima Radiator fans and Temp gauge not working.i have a 1989 Nissan Maxima and the radiator fans do not come on. I have replaced the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor and this did not work....

-The radiator fan will be kick on ONLY when the temperature reach about 190-200. Depend on the sensor that you have now.
You can test it by boil it and hook up a digital multi meter to it.
and make sure use a temperature gage to test with, so you know how hot the water when it kick on.

Good luck

ENGINE IS HEATED QUICKLY

if the coolant is low enough, there will be air/space at the top of the engine. where the temperature sensor is located. also where the thermostat is located. air heats up much quicker than water. an abnormally fast rise in temperature might be due to the temperature sensor getting hot because not ehough coolant is flowing through the system. to check coolant level, wait until the engine is cold. remove the radiator cap by pushing down on the cap with the palm of your hand and turn counter clockwise. there will be a safety stop about half way around. this is to prevent the cap from blowing off in the event of pressure build up. again, push the cap down and turn to remove. if you see no coolant, there is a leak in the system. fill with the proper anti freeze. note the quantity. get the leak fixed.

the thermostat may be bad if there is no leak. have it replaced.

there could be a collapsed hose restricting flow

the temperature sensor may be bad, but you would probably get a check engine light

the water pump may be bad, but you should hear some noise if that were the cases.

my bet is a leak or the thremost
