SOURCE: brake warning light is on for 2002 bmw 745i.

The brake pads have sensors in them, when the pads get worn down to the sensor the light comes on letting you know its time to replace. this happens well before the pads are completely gone to reduce wear on the rotors. You should have the brakes replaced and the sensor also.

SOURCE: car will not shift into gear

Sounds like a linkage/cable to me. Disconnect the linkage at the transmission and move the shift actuator by hand to see if there is the same things happening. Don't try to do this with the engine running unless someone is holding the brake inside the car.

SOURCE: 2006 Altima doesn't shift into reverse

The problem that I could see is the transmission/shift solenoid. The solenoid thing is located inside the transmission. The repair should run $200-$250 or there abouts. If you don't fix it quickly though, you will wreck the transmission and you don't want to know how much that costs!

You may also contact the manufacturer for second opinion.

Hope this helps and have a great evening!

Transmission sensor ( fail safe prog )

I have had to have my BMW X5 2004 transmission rebuilt TWICE in the last 2 years. First, @80K, it just stopped, though engine rev'd. When the trans place opened it up, they said the trans oil was burned, so they rebuilt it for $2,500. I had problems over the year and then it went again during the warranty and they repaired it, free. Lasted 14K Miles. I got ALOT of Trans Failsafe Prog lights. When I turned off the car, it reset, but ultimately came back on, and forewarned an impending trans failure. When the trans went the 2nd time, I bought a USED 40K trans from LKQ (I was lucky to find one with low mileage) for $2K and had the trans place put it in. NO PROBLEMS now. I got this advice from a BMW dealer parts guy out in PA - NO ONE can really rebuild BMW Trans well. Either go for a remanufactured one, or a low mileage used one. Getting them rebuilt at the local trans place will only give you heart aches and you'll end up doing the job again. ALSO: DO NOT WAIT FOR the BMW recommended 100K miles to replace the trans fluid. I suggest 60K. That's the #1 cause of trans failure. I'm out $6K on trannys now, but I'm about to take legal action. One more thing - I used K-Solv in my radiator, and the Trans guy told me that it clogged up the trans cooler. He took off the cooler lines and put a video tube camera up there, and yes, it showed cloggage. Jury is out on who's the real culprit here. Bottom line: Trans Program Failure is a pre-cursor to transmission failure. Get ready... Don't let a local shop rebuild it! Start shopping for a low mileage used one!

My shift gear can only to park and reverse, cannot go to drive. what seems to be the problem?

This is a problem internal to the transmission then.Possibly just a solenoid issue, but you may be in need of a full rebuild or transmission replacement. Also try this Disconnect the shifter cable located at the bottom of steering column under the dash and see if the shifter will move. If it will not move than you will need to remove the shifter column tube and find out what is sticking. if it does than you need to disconnect the cable at the trans and see if the shifter will shift. If it does than you have internal problem in trans if it wont you have a cable issue. you can remove the gearshift handle and boot, and try to figure out what is jammed or misaligned.

Need to know what "trans failsafe mode" message

Trans failsafe is "Limp" mode, it means a sensor has triggered due to a fault in OBC. You need to bring it to BMW or a competent shop to have a fault scan done to identify the actual cause. Limp mode allows you to drive short distance (so you're not stranded roadside)
