SOURCE: 95 ford windstar door ajar

These switches are inside the doors attached to the door latch assembles. If you know some one with a scan tool you can go into the body computer and see which one is showing open when all the doors are closed. The most likly one is the drivers side door or the two in the rear gate. I've replaced those the most.If you don't want to replace them you can unplug them and the lights will go off. Hope this helps. If you need more info let me know> Thanks Dan

SOURCE: 2003 Explorer door ajar light stay on when all doors are closed

I had this problem on my 2003 explorer and took WD40 and gave the lock mechanism a good dose where it meets the clasp on the door jam. Then open and close the doors a couple of times to get them working. They get gummed up and sometimes have a tendency to stick.

SOURCE: Door Ajar light and dinger, interior lights stay on, looking for a fuse diagram.

It drove me nuts too. Fortunately, the solution is both cheap and simple. There is a latch mechanism in each side of the tailgate which gets all filled with dirt and slime. The latch jaws start to stick and dont move far enough to close the door ajar switch inside the tailgate Spray each latch generously with WD40, wipe the mechanisms off with a rag, close the tailgate, open the tailgate and repeat the cleaning several times. As soon as you get everything freed up, the switch will be able to report that the tailgate is closed and the problems will be gone. If you want, afterwards you can spray a little lithium grease on the latches to keep things running smooth. You may need to use a screwdriver to completely pry open the jaws in conjunction with opening the tailgate handle to get them to open fully while you are washing and wiping them off. Now's a real good time to lubricate all the door hinges and latches including the sliding door. May as well put some oil on the hood hinges and hood latch too. It's not impossible to keep Fords on the road....just tricky......very tricky.

Interior lights won't come on when the doors are open.

there is a timer on the interior lights to turn off after 20 minutes.
one of your door switches are bad,and it tells the computer that a door is open and the lights are turned off, that makes sense.
a way to test this is to undo the battery for a minute. then see if the interior lights come on. one of the door switches is bad

Ford 2003 Windstar Interior Floor Lights Stay On

to repair this problem you must remove floor lights from seats and check the circuit for either a short or a stuck switch use a multi tester this can get to be irritating as the short may be not directly behind switch could be along wiring that runs through car my suggestion if your not electrically proficient is take it to an electromechanic shop or simply unplug the light from socket to avoid draining the battery.

Doors ajar signal on instrumentation panel lights up and inside interior lights flash on and off.

Hey,try this. Get some WD40 or equivalent and spray it inside the door latch. Then open and close the door a few times. Do this on every door. Note which door the you sprayed when the door ajar light turns off because that will be the door latch you will have to replace. What happens is that the door ajar switch sticks.

Inside lights

Remove "Door Ajar" switch. Clean the switch and use a graphite type lubricant (I recommend "Dry-Slide") to lubricate the actuator on the switch. Reassemble the switch.

The switches are located inside the door panels, attached to the catch mechanism.

1) Remove interior door panel.

2) Using a T-27 Torx driver, remove the 3 bolts holding the catch in the door.
2a) The door ajar switch is the only part on the mechanism with the 2-wire harness.
2b) The switch is located at the rear catch for the sliding door.

3) Using a small flat screwdriver, gently lift the black tab on the catch mechanism and rotate the switch to remove it from the catch assembly.

4) Using a rag, clean the small round actuator and apply a small amount of graphite lubricant to the actuator and work the switch so it moves freely.

5) Reassemble the catch and the door.
