SOURCE: 1980 corvette

This car does not have a door lock relay. The gray and tan wires go straight from the switch to the door lock motors.

SOURCE: location of fusebox on 1980 corvette

Fuses are located in the junction box below the instrument panel to the left of the steering column. The turn signal flasher and hazard warning flasher also plug into the fuse block. Each fuse receptacle is marked as to the circuit it protects and the correct amperage of the fuse. In line fuses are also used. Refer to the Fuse Chart at the end of the information for their location. The fuse block on some models is a swing-down unit located in the underside of the instrument panel adjacent to the steering column. Access to the fuse block on some models is gained through the glove box opening. The Convenience Center on some models is a swing-down unit located on the underside of the instrument panel. The swing-down feature provides central location and easy access to buzzers, relays and flasher units. All units are serviced by plug-in replacement. Location of Convenience Center on specific models may vary.

SOURCE: i have a 1980 corvette and no power to the blower fan switch?

I had the same problem on my 80 vette several months ago. The blower relay is located on the firewall top side (engine compartment, passenger side). It is a silver rectangle about 2"x1"x1" . Pull out the wiring plug and check to make sure it hasn't melted due to a loose connection. NAPA sells a new plug that can be spliced into the wiring harness. Let me know if you have any questions.

The fan cooling fan only works when ac is on

The fan that works with the a.c on is called the auxillary fan. Theres the primary fan that should come on automatically. Check the temperature sensor it could be faulty. Locate the temperature sensor and disconnect it. If the fan comes on go ahead and replace the sensor.

Location of the Auxiliary fan switch

The auxillary fan is used for AC cooling purposes, and your vehicle under normal circumstances should not overheat regardless of the status of the auxillary fan.

That being said, the auxillary fan is controlled by the PCM based on AC switch position via a fan control relay in your fuse box under the hood. There is no fan switch for it, as it is turned on based on PCM observance of AC control switch position.

Some things to look at regarding your overheat condition:

When the vehicle begins overheating, what are the conditions of the radiator hoses? Are both firm, or only one and the other soft? Are both hot, or is one hot and the other only warm?

Both a failed waterpump and a failed shut thermostat will show a hot hose on one side and only a warm hose on the other side of the radiator.

A failed (stuck shut) thermostat will also result in one very firm hose (highly pressurized and nowhere to go with the thermostat shut) and one relatively soft hose.

You can take the radiator cap off (BEFORE it pressurizes) and watch the water level as the car runs. If the thermostat is opening and waterpump is pumping, you will see fluid flow once it gets to operating temperature.

Watch your engine fan and see if it is engaged or just spinning freely. When warm and the engine shut off, the fan clutch should be engaged making the fan more resistant to turn. If it spins freely, the clutch is failing.

Check the area around the radiator and between it and the condenser for obstructions to airflow.

Obviously check the condition of the coolant for heavy scale/sludge. The 3.0/3.5 engines are notorious for turning coolant into thick rusty puddy.

Hope this helps!

Where do I add power stearing fluid

The power steering pump on a 1980 corvette is located directly under the alternator. I have found it easiest to reach between the alternator belt and unscrew the cap, then use a long stemmed funnel to fill it. If you shine a flashlight down into the spout, you'l avopid overfilling.
