SOURCE: 1989 GMC 2500 5.7L - engine surges and stalls at idle. Loses power at cruising speed.

Wow you have replaced a lot of stuff. Lets go back to the Fuel pump. When you replaced it did you replace the hose between the pump and the sending unit. These are common for splitting. Have you hooked up a fuel pressure gauge to check what pressure you have? It should be real close to 13 psi and should raise to at least 18 or 19 when you pinch off the return line.

Bad EGR valve comes to mind here. Assuming the plugs are good, the EGR valve woiuld be what I'd look at.

SOURCE: fuel leak under turbo on 1997 ford 7.3

Is the fuel in the valley right under the fuel pump? If so, your fuel pump might have failed and is leaking out of the weep hole.

Other places to look would be the fuel filter seal and a bad o-ring in the fuel drain relief valve.

Good luck

This is a vacuum leak causing the oxygen sensors to throw codes or its both sensors or you have an exhaust leak before the sensorsyou say you changed the intake manifold gasket did you change upper plenum and the lower intake or just the top? Ok let's try this take fuel injection cleaner and spray around the intake upper and lower while in drive foot on the brake if the idle changes the leak is there do the same for all vacuum lines

Hello, Have a look at your Crankshaft and Camshaft sensors. As I remember there was a problem on some Chevies with the Crank sensor and it caused a different problem with the timing. But it probably could cause more problems so its' suspect.

While you did the filter and Regulator for the fuel, did you do a fuel sample? Also some of the ECU's can be refreshed and it is possible that you lost some info in the main computer and just need a reload of the program.

Although you changed the Intake manifold gasket, did you do a Vacuum check or mist the Vacuum lines while the engine ran? You should see if the Vacuum reading is okay. Then see if there is a Vacuum leak somewhere.

I hope my solution is very helpful to you. It looks like you spent quite a bit to solve this.

I have a 2003 ford focus , I am having a misfiring problem. I have replaced spark plugs, wire, coil pack, air filter, fuel pressure sensor, replaced injectors 3 and 4 in which that the misfiring code....

Check for Intake Manifold leaks with either a water mist from a spray bottle or Choke cleaner. Do this while the engine is running and you will know about a leak with an RPM change. I read about some intakes were 2 piece and the intermediate gasket leaks.

Also you could clean the MAF on the air intake with Electric cleaner. If you have an old fashion Vacuum gauge you could plug in and see how steady Valves are closing by watching the Vacuum bounce from misfires.

Would like to know results on this case.

2001 ford focus had the spark plugs and wire change. Has a code po171.. ran good for two days. The spark plugs are blacker than acs of spades which is running rich. Don't know what to do next. To me its...

PO171-System to Lean (Bank 1)

Air filter cover tight?
All intake ducting tight?
Clean MAF Sensor.--CRC MAF Cleaner
Fuel Pressure Regulator?
EVAP Purge Valve-stuck open?
Vacuum leaks?
EGR System-issues?

Seems your getting a lean O2 Code, because it is trying to correct for a rich condition,as you said.

Is the Throttle Position Sensor-original?

Work on what is driving it rich,my list is a possible.

Sounds like intake air system, look for cracks in hoses (possible intake manifold gasket) all vacuum hoses and connections. Make sure TPS and all filters are clean. Sounds like a lean mixture/flooding issue. Common problems with FWD is the Air Intake Hose, lots of flexing. Cracks form on the bottom and debris comes off inside over time(thus fouling the TPS downstream). Remove inspect carefully, If it is hooped you can fab one up yourself with PVC and some clamps and Aluminium Dryer Ducting. With the proper alignment and bigger airways you will boost your performance. The TPS can be cleaned with Carb Cleaner, replace the air filter and then test with a Vacuum Pressure Gauge install in line, directly off a Intake Manifold Vacuum port.

Try that and get back to me? I'll be around...
