Maybe head gasket has gone. Look in water reservoir to see if there is oil in water, or a brownish colour.

Sometimes when you open cooling system, air gets in, it can cause problems with temp gage.
How hot does it get in degrees F? Is the coolant boiling over? Are you losing coolant? Use a non-contact infra red temp gun to take engine temp, At least we will have a degrees F reading. Most temp gages say hi or lo, cold or hot. I don't know about yours?
Can you check for combustion gases in the coolant?

I have a 2001 Dodge Dakota 4.7l 4×4. It is overheating and the heater just blows cold air. The thermostat has been replaced, the radiator has been replaced and the top radiator hose has been replaced. One...

Couple of thoughts. are you losing water/antifreeze, do you have the right mixture 50/50 water/antifreeze. You did not say if the thermostat is removed or replaced. If thermostat is stuck closed water will no circulate. Are you getting any flow from the water pump. If your heater core is bypassed you should not get any hot air from the heater in the vehicle. Make sure your oil levels are good.

My 2001 pt cruiser limited over heated. It has already had a new radiator and both fans replaced with in the year. Should i now replace the water pump which is the original?

Overheating is caused by:
1. plugged radiator core
2. Wrong mix of water and coolant.
3. Low coolant level.
4. stuck thermostat
5. hoses collapsing.
6. Air lock in system
7. Bad fins on water pump.

Overheating 2001 chevy impala

Believe it or not, new thermostats can be bad. Did you maybe get some adhesive on the thermostat preventing it to open fully? Is the thermostat installed with the crown up? The only other thing that I can think of, if it's a closed cooling system and the wrong radiator cap is installed, it won't hold the pressure, therefor overheating. The other thing may be the water pump. Many times the impellers will wear down internally causing to low of water flow.

I have a 2000 dodge dakota sport. 4.7 v8 auto 4x4 and it has been overheating. i flushed radiator. still overheats. i have been told 2 diff locations of the thermostat so i just need to know where it is...

1. Is fan turning when engine runs?
2. Is belt in place to turn the water pump?
If so, sounds like most likely a thermostat problem, thermostat is normally located at the end of the hose that runs from the radiator to the top of the engine, or more appropriately, the water pump.

Overheating 2001 pontiac aztek

remove coolant.remove thermostat remove bottom radiator hose to water pump.put a empty container under the radiator.take a water hose put it where thermostat goes flush out the rust in block.watch the water as it come out the water pump .if stream water is small keep flushing until you get a study sream of clear water. also flush out radiator. lower water pressure dont flush radiator it with high water pressure you could burst it. make clean the over flow jug .make sure it not stopped up.put in a new thermostat and radiator pressure cap. fill radiator with half antifreeze and half water.bleed the coolant system.

Overheating

Try flipping the Thermostat over. Pointed end should point towards radiator (output side)
