Question about 2002 Ford Explorer
My daughter plugged in her blackberry charger and it wouldn't work. When someone else pugged in a different charger, it wouldn't work anymore either, even though it had been working fine. My charger was working in my car. She took mine out, plugged hers in, wouldn't work and now none of our other chargers work in my car either. We tried other cigarette lighter sites in both cars and none of them work now. I checked the fuse and it was fine. Changed it anyway and nothing happened.
IF YOU HAVE A TEST LIGHT, TEST center contact INSIDE THE LIGHTER OUTLET IF IT SHOWS POWER YOUR PROBLEM IS THE GROUND. And The Ground is INCORPERATED into A Bundle Located @ or around Electrical Center= Fuse / Relay BOX under hood. Sounds like a (BODY GROUND) Problem. Also Be Sure it is NOT a KEY ON Curciut. I Have a Carivan that the Cig. Lighters Work ONLY with KEY ON. Hope this is Of Help to you ! .

The elements inside the lighter receptacle for the positive burned out because that charger draws a lot of power and it makes the inside very hot and if it's an older car it burns out the contact and this is also the same issue with your other cars ,but it's also possible that the center contact is corroded unpug the positive wire and use a pencil eraser to try to scrub the middle button contact that's in the center of it then use a vacuum to clean it out you can also use a piece of sandpaper and a flat screwdriver to rub it clean still vacuum it out and also where the stud is that the plug fits onto that you took off to clean then squeeze that plug to get a tight fit these things might work but I think that whole new lighter sockets for all cars will fix it autozone other parts stores and ebay are your choices
