My lists of interference engines does not list the 99 ford focus 2.0L engine. There shouldn't be any damage to engine.

Consulting your owner's manual should give you an idea of how to replace a belt depending on which belt it is that needs changing. Assuming it is the timing belt that needs to be changed it is a simple process to undertake, though if you are unsure of working on motor cars it may be better to take the vehicle to a garage for professionals to carry out the work.

Firstly check your owner's manual for the recommended mileage for replacing your timing belt. Replacement for a Ford Focus is at 120,000 miles. You need to locate the timing belt and examine it for breaks, damage, fraying, worn spots or looseness.

Disengage the negative battery cable in all models. Detach the passenger inner splash-shield and wheel cover, the accessory drive and timing belts, the tensioner and the crankshaft pulley. Remove the spark plugs, catalytic converter and idler pulley in 2000 and older Ford Focuses. Undo the retaining fasteners and lift the timing belt cover off the engine. Align the crank and camshaft timing marks. Older models call for undoing the water pump pulley and valve cover before locking the camshaft in place. Release the tensioner's bolt. Turn the arm to the right 14 degrees and place a 1/8 inch drill bit in the opening. This secures the belt tensioner in place; you can now take the belt off.

Once you have fitted the new belt you can re-assemble the parts which have been removed in the reverse order.

Hope helps.

How do you change aa timing belt on a 2003 Ford Focus. I have replacement prices from $99 to $526.

ford focus zetec engine 1.6 ,then its quite easy to do but one word of caution ??BIG TIME and the the bottom pulley is not on a keyway just a slight taper so do not undo the bottom pulley bolt by jamming a big bar with socket on and turning the starter motor ,as the bolt loosens the timing belt pulley moves and the valves hit the pistons .jam the flywheel up with a small jemmy bar in the flywheel teeth by removing the starter motor, trust me on this i smashed two pistons and 6 valves undoing the pulley bolt with the starter motor

Timing belt is broken. Interference or non interference motor?

Most Ford vehicles from 1985 and up have enough valve clearence so the valves do not get hit when the timing belt snaps. Since I worked for ford for many years I have only seen one with valve damage and the youg man said he was driving his car really hard at high RPM's. I believe you will be okay on your engine as long as when the belt broke the engine was not at high rpm's. If know one has told you those engine recommend a timing belt replacement every 60k. I hpe this helped and I hope this fixes your problem. Good luck, Roger

I have a s reg ford focus i was just wondering at what point would i need a cam belt change

60,000 miles is a great benchmark for replacement. you need a trusted technician to perform this so no damage occurs. when in doubt, refer to the owners manual.

Yes, it is a interference engine. If you used the wrong procedure to align components before installing the timing belt, sometimes you can redo the correct procedure and fixed it. Good luck.
