2003 chevy suburban. When I start it, it automatically goes into 4wd,( usually low 4wd or into automatic 4wd.)

Only happens when I start it. I have replaced the control switch on the dash and also replaced the electronic motor on the transfer case. Any ideas? My guess is a short or bad ground. Thanks, John

SOURCE: 2003 Chevy needs transfer case replaced for the 2nd time

I just had my transfer case rebuilt on my 2002 2500 silverado duramax. They told me that the spring that holds the pump inplace in the transfer case wore a hold through the case. He said this was common on these transfer cases. Chevy has not acknowledge the problem. He designed a steel plate, with flanges that holds the pump in place and will not wear a hole in the case again. And as far as the post to engage it once a month, the chain turns even when in 2WHL drive.

2004 CHEVY SUBURBAN 2500 4WD. At times after starting, it will automatically be in 4wl or neutral. causing me to shut off re-start re-select 2wd.also the service 4wd comes on. Ideas??

Pull switch and check to see if bad solder connections, or just replace switch. Easiest and possibly cheapest of the options.

My truck will not shift into 4 low, the light flashes but will not engage, goes back to whatever mode it was in before. 4 hi and AWD work fine, anyone else had this problem?

If you don't use the 4wd all summer it will freeze up and usually by continuing to engage it .It will eventually get into 4lo try it 2 or 3 times in a day

I've got a 97 Chevy k1500 with automatic trans and push bottom 4wd. transfer case will not engage into 4 high, all the lights flash. The truck will not shift into low range and 4wd does work in low but...

it could be one of 3 things, it could be a vacuum leak or the vacuum actaulor could be bad they are usually under the battery tray if that don't do it check the vacuum line under the truck for oil in the line if there is it will be the vacuum switch on the top of the transimission.

It should shift into 4 high in any gear. 4 low you have to be in neutral. If the button doesnt push in, it could very well be the button.
