Error code p0601-fixya

in dodge means that the powertrain control module [pcm] had a problem or shorted 6 times [dodge and Chrysler have been known for this problem] you can try a reset on the code--- or if in reduced power mode or lack of engine power may need to replace the pcm ,but try reset first,if pcm bad than you will have to have the new one flashed [programed to your vehicle ] which more than likely is a trip to dealer for flash not many auto shops have the computer software to do this

Check eng. light on. P0601 code What can I do?

A code P0601 in most cases means the PCM has gone bad. This is possibly due to a short-circuit inside the PCM. Or, if you disconnect the wires/connector from the PCM while the battery is still connected, that may also cause this code. the most common fix is to replace and reprogram the PCM. In a few cases the dealer may be able to reflash the PCM and get it working. But more than likely the PCM will need to be replaced and reprogrammed dealership for this). The good news is it *may* be covered under your emmissions warranty. good-day!

I have a 2002 dodge durango 4.7, the check engine light is on and is a p0601 code. The code reader say bad input sensor. What sensor is this and where is it located?

Well, a simple google search (looked for "2002 dodge durango codes p0601") led me to this web site: http://www.obd-codes.com/p0601 which says it is a problem with your PCM (Powertrain Control Module).

Things that can kill a vehicle's computer are things like using a welder on the car. If you disconnect the wires/connector from the PCM while the battery is still connected, that may also cause this code. But, it most cases it means your PCM has gone bad, and you will probably have to have it replaced.

Try resetting the code first (O'reilly's will do that for free), and see if it comes back. If not, it might have just been a glitch. If it comes back constantly, then your PCM may be shot.

Although your car may work even with this code, you may not be getting the best gas mileage or performance if the PCM is not working correrctly.

P0601 internal controller malfunction

Isnt good; the bad news is, this is an internal failure. Sometimes you can clear the code and it won't return. But most of the time you need to replace the PCM. Something inside the logic get garbled and throws that code.

Good news...the PCM is an emissions related component. I believe it is covered under warranty for 8 years or 80,000 miles. Check with your dealer. Just like catalytic converters and such.

P0601 - Internal Control Module Memory Check Sum Error
Basically that means that there is an interal fault in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). There have been many reported PCM failures on Chrysler/Dodge products although it is possible for this to happen on any vehicle. In Dodge/Chrysler products, a P0601 trouble code means that a serial communication failed inside the computer at least 6 times.

Likely, no symptoms will be discernible to the driver, other than the illuminated Check Engine Light. Typically the engine runs fine, gauges work, etc.

Causes: A code P0601 in most cases means the PCM has gone bad. This is possibly due to a short-circuit inside the PCM. Or, if you disconnect the wires/connector from the PCM while the battery is still connected, that may also cause this code.

Possible Solutions: With a P0601 OBD-II trouble code, the most common fix is to replace and reprogram the PCM. In a few cases the dealer may be able to reflash the PCM and get it working. But more than likely the PCM will need to be replaced and reprogrammed (we recommend you take it to a dealership for this). The good news is it *may* be covered under your emmissions warranty. So even if you're out of bumper-to-bumper warranty or powertrain warranty, check your warranty guide or dealer to see if this is covered.

Other people have reported that they cleared the code only for it to return again and again. Keep in mind that most shops can replace the PCM but not all can program it.

Hope this helps (remember to rating this answer and leave some testimonial comment).

Check engine light is on 3 codes p0740,p0601,& p0700 what do they mean

P0700 - Transaxle Control System Fault Conditions
The P0700 code is for information only and the next step is to check for transaxle codes in the Transaxle Control Module (TCM). So you'll have to have the dealer or another qualified shop/technician pull the transaxle codes from the TCM and go from there.

P0740 - Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Malfunction

P0601 Code. PCM... blah... The vehicle is running

P0601 is an internal PCM failure, meaning it didn't pass one or more of its self-tests. If it is running ok and you don't mind the light being on, drive it. A replacement is several hundred dollars depending on where you are and the market value of the area dealerships.
