1991 volvo 240, 267k miles, runs great, but the brake lights were iffy on whether they worked or not and now they don't work at all when you step on the brake pedal. Fuses are all fine as well as all bulbs. Been to repair shop when we purchased vehicle and brake lights worked for about 2 weeks and then quit again. What should we look for and where? My daughter doesn't have a lot of money to repair this and if we can fix it easily at home, we want to.
Look under the brake pedal, up near where it is connected. You'll have to get down in the floorboard. Push the pedal all the way down and see if the button contact is being pressed when you do. If it isn't, loosen it and move it up or down until it is. If it is being pressed in far enough for contact, it is most likely a faulty switch if you are certain the fuses are alright.
