It is your power steering pump. The solution is to replace the P/S fluid resevoir and fill or flush the system.

P0404 IS EGR POSITION SENSOR PERFORMANCE..YOU NEED A NEW EGR VALVE..RECOMMEND DISCONNECTING BATTERY WHILE REPLACING EGR VALVE..SOMETIMES CODE WILL NOT GO AWAY EVEN AFTER REPLACING VALVE AND CLEARING CODE WITH SCANNER..VALVE IS LOCATED ABOVE ALTERNATOR ON END OF CYLINDER HEAD..THE BOTTOM BOLT CAN BE TRICKY TO REMOVE AND HAVE HAD TO REMOVE ALTERNATOR TO GET BOLT OUT..YOU WILL NEED A NEW GASKET FOR TUBE AS WELL..ABOUT 120 BUCKS FROM DEALER(CAN)

SOURCE: code EGR P404

Or before shelling out that kind of cash; you could try cleaning the seal on your gas cap and/or replacing your gas cap first. My '06 has tripped this code twice (after very dry or very cold weather).

An alternator or generator--- has nothing
to do with starting system

Wouldn't you be looking at the starter solenoid
or the starter, for possible failure, if the cables are
good & in place

Could be a failed ignition switch

Lots to check there

1998 chrysler town and country no crank no spark no injector pulse

I'm assuming you already checked: 1. Battery voltage at the terminals 2. Battery cable connections 3. Voltage to the starter at the starter 4. Jump the starter 5. Voltage to the switch 6. Test the switch?

How difficult is it to replace the starter on a 2006 town and country, not a newb to cars, but it takes me awhile to get thru a repair....

Starters are normally easy to replace its just goin to be how easy it is to get too usually only two bolts hold it in one plug and one starter wire. so if you can jack it up and put it on stands then you probably can do it in a few hours.
