SOURCE: 1998 vw jetta clutch

hi from uk if as you say clutch slips in high gear ie engine revs are not compared to speed you should be doing ? then i am afraid that considering age and probable high milage of car the cars clutch is on its last legs and rqs renew not a difficult or long job to do on jetta but for the moment try not to drive car too much as it will/may fail completely no drive! then you will incurre breakdown/recovery charge ? a stich in time ? saves nine ? hope this helps you?

SOURCE: VW transporter,1.9 TD 1998 ABL wont start

Your problem is located behind the ignition switch.Remove the covers of a steering column behind the steering wheel. There is 5 or 6 wires around on black or white plastic switch.Change it.ATT ! Before removing the steering wheel disconect the battery and wait for at list 10 min. to deactivate the SRS airbags.

SOURCE: when did the vw transporter be come computureised my is a 1997

Computer has no impact on starting an engine by pushing it by using the manual transmission and the clutch. If it cranks and wont start normally, pushing it wont do anything to start it either.

I have a 2002 VW Jetta and the temperature gauge keeps going up and down... Is this something to worry about ?

Replace the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor. ECT sensor is placed in the right back side of the cylinder head on 2002 VW Jetta 1.9 TDI. See picture below:

Vw transporter goes into gear but has no drive, clutch replaced 3,000 miles ago, gearbox removed and striped, clutch and gearbox all look OK ?

Interesting, what was done to the transmission... complete rebuild or just clutch?
"Striped" recently or 3000 mi ago?
It sounds like the clutch has failed but without more diagnostic information an exact answer is impossible
