SOURCE: 2004 elantra car keys and remote
I bought a 2005 Elantra new at the dealer and they gave me a little silver engraved tab that had a engraved code on it in case I lost my set . If that is your situation ( If you bought it new) I would think they would do the same. If not I would check where you bought it.
SOURCE: Lost original keys
if it was me i would go to a toyota dealer with my vin number and if you look on the door it will tell you what month the car was made also take paper to the car registraton to prove you are the owner and they will get you a key you may even have to have the car tow so call the dealer ship first because the new key has to be program to work with the car
SOURCE: My Spare Key Won't Start My Car
ok well here's the thing. This key has not been used before. The keys are cut to the specs of the ignition so they may be undercut so to speak. I know on my car i can turn it upside down it will work. But on the other hand it could just possibly be a back up for when you lock your keys in your car (not likely but it's still possible). You can keep putting your key in and out a bunch of times and **** the steering wheel back and forth as you turn the key to get it used to the ignition switch. See if that works and if not i will see what i can come up with in the meantime for this exact car.
SOURCE: STARTING DISABLED, REMOVE KEY, WAIT THREE MINUTES.
It may need a new key cylinder in the steering column. Mine was acting up (had to wait 3 min. to start) I replaced the key which didn't help. I then sprayed the key cylinder with electrical cleaner and so far (2 days later) it has not caused a problem. If it acts up again I'll probably replace the cylinder next.
