Radio Code Recently replaced battery in my 2002 Spectra. Now my radio plays for approx. 3 min. and then flashes code. I've contacted 2 dealerships and both were unsuccessful in reseting my radio. Recently another Kia Dealership told me that I needed to purchase a new radio. They claim this has happened to a "few" of their Kias. Any solution?

Please check the information that came along with the owner's manual. It should be printed on a card that comes with those booklets. I assume you've already done that though. I've attached the procedure for entering the code below. Let me know if you have any trouble with it.

If the radio is disconnected from the power supply it is not ready for operation when reconnected. After switching on the ignition and the radio the word "CODE" appears on the display and the letter "C" flashes.

NOTE: The five-digit code number for this radio is printed on the CODE CARD which you were given.

Enter the code number with station buttons, e.g. number 1, station button 1.

After entering the first digit the word "CODE" disappears and the digit entered is displayed followed by 4 dashes. The next digit to be entered flashes. After all 5 digits are entered, the first digit flashes again. In this state the code number can be written over repeatedly. A correction can be made only by reentering the entire code number.
Confirming the code number: Press seek-UP/seek-DOWN or SCAN button. The radio switches on automatically and displays the station or frequency stored for station button 1.

If the wrong code number has been entered and confirmed, the word "CODE" appears on the display again. After the code has been entered three times incorrectly the word "WAIT" appears on the display and the radio is disabled for approx. 10 min .

NOTE: The waiting time continues to run only when the radio is switched on.

After expiration of the waiting time the word "CODE" appears on the display again and the correct code number can be entered. After 3 more incorrect entries the radio is again disabled for 10 min . After 3 more incorrect entries (a total of 9 incorrect entries) the waiting time is increased to 60 min . After 3 more incorrect entries the radio locks up again for 60 min .

When you disconnect your battery or remove the fuse and then reconnect itagain, it disables the radio. This is an anti-theft protection for your carradio.
The enable your radio the activation code is in your vehicle owner's manual. Ifyou do not have this code you need to go to your vehicle manufacrurers service centre andget them to enter this code for you.

its possible the radio went into lock mode,this is a security feature in case of theft.you should have a code to enter when this happens.if you are not the original owner then maybe not.if you go to the dealer with proof of owership they can help with the code.

You will have to access a 6 digit code out of the radio Theftlock system then still go to a dealership to get the 4 digit code that unlocks the radio. Most people put in a radio code (4 digits) when new then forget it years later when the battery is replaced or radio removed. Press preset buttons #2 & #3 at the same time with the key in run position and radio on. A 3 digit code should be displayed (write it down) then immediately press the AM/FM button, another 3 digit code will appear. Take the 6 digit code to a GM dealer. They will call Delcotronics with the generic 6 digit code and get you the master unlock code for your radio. You can dial it in using the scan buttons (best to ask the dealer how, or get them to do it). Once set you can change it again or write down the master unlock code and keep it somewhere for the next time the battery is disconnected. If you can't access the 6 digit code, you will still need to bring it to a dealership and have it unlocked by reprogramming it. It actually is a module on the data line and can create trouble codes and be programmed. It can not be taken from your truck and used in any other vehicle unless programmed to that vehicle.

Three ways to get the code.
1.check the glove for the code, there might be a white sticker with the code on it.
2.with car on and radio off. hold down 1 and 6 on radio and turn radio on while holding down 1 and 6 down. If you're luck, the radio will show you the audio SN#. The first half of the SN# will be display first and the second half will be display next.
3.you will have to remove the radio. The SN# printed on a sticker on the radio.

call your honda dealer and give them the SN# and they will give you your audio code.

To get the proper code, you need to contact the Kia Dealership service department, and have your vehicle's VIN number available, and they can get you your radio code.

have you replaced the battery recently?

Check your fuse for your radio it may have blown. Hope this helps

Since each code is unique to the individual radio, you have two options:

1. Find the card in your owner's manual that has the unlock codes and instructions for unlocking your radio
2. Contact your dealership with your VIN number and proof of ownership. There is often a nominal fee for this service.
