If the oil smells like gas, you should change it immediately.
Check fuel pressure and verify that it is where it should be.(55-62 psi). Wait 10 minutes check pressure drop. A fuel system that drops more than 34 kPa (5 psi) in 10 minutes has a leak, in your case it may be through an injector .
The sludge that accululates around your oil cap is indicative of coolant in the oil, this can be caused by a bad head gasket, intake gasket or cracked cylinder head.
Clean it off and see how long it takes to come back, a little accumulation is nothing to worry about.

this is common, gm has had big problems with the cluster (gauges) on the 2001 to 2005 models but no recalls. to repair this you will need to replace the cluster and some models need programing from the dealer after its installed.hope this helps;.
