The vehicle has to be programmed to the key. Receivers don't. It takes 2 keys to reprogram Fords. Some locksmiths can do it. Dealer mostly. Just because you got a key from the dealer, doesn't mean it is a master key. Older Fords have 96+ million combinations. Newer cars are in the trillions of combinations.

Yes it must be programmed. You need one good working key that starts the truck to program it.

I believe the transceiver ring is more of an antenna, so it most likely require programming. Some locksmiths can do that now.

How to bypass alarm system lost the remote 02 ford expedition

Factory alarm is Passive. Passive Anti-Theft System. It is a transponder chip in the key and a transceiver ring around the lock cylinder. If the alarm starts go off when set and not unlocked with remote or key, inserting the programmed key into the ignition and starting will disarm the system, shut off the horn and flashing lights and allow the vehicle to start.

Where is the pats override button located? specific under dash location. 2002 Ford Explorer XLT 4WD

There is no PATS override button. PATS is Passive Anti-Theft System. It is a transponder chip in the key, and a transceiver ring around the ignition lock cylinder. The Ring looks for the correct chip in a key in order to allow the vehicle to start. A bypass or override button in the vehicle completely advantage of having the chip system and would render is useless in entirety.

What the code p1260 mean and how do I fix it

P1260 indicates that the Passive Anti Theft system (PATS) detected a "theft condition". This basically means an incorrect signal, or no signal at all was received from the chipped key. Brief overview: your ignition key has a chip in it called a transponder that is read by the PATS transceiver (mounted around the ignition cylinder housingbehind the column shroud). The signal is then sent to the PATS control module, which communicates with the Powertrain Control Module(PCM) and enables the vehicle to start. Sorry for all the acronyms! When an incorrect signal is received, the PATS module then sends this message to the PCM which triggers the P1260 trouble code, resulting in a no start condition. Possible causes are: an incorrect key being used, faulty key chip (transponder), wiring concerns between the transceiver module and PATS module, the transceiver module itself or internal PATS or PCM module concerns. The first thing to do in this instance is retrieve codes from the PATS module and diagnose these. Once the PATS issues have been resolved you can reset the P1260. Communication with the PATS module will likely need to be done at a Ford dealer. A few things to check first: make sure the correct key is being used, and if you have a second key, try that one as well. If one key starts it but not the other, you may have a faulty key. If both keys do not work, then it is not likely a key problem. Honestly, we see very few problems with the keys themselves. Make sure no one has tampered with the steering columnshroud as the transceiver module located behind it is fairly fragile. Lastly check for an aftermarket remote startsystem. These are a common cause of no start problems with PATS equipped vehicles. Some installers will remove the chip from your key and tape it to the column (under the shroud). This basically bypasses the system and allows it to be started without a chipped key. The problem is that the transponder removed from the key is not designed to be used in this way and can fail due to extreme temperature changes and, depending on mounting condition, excessive vibration and shock. Other installers use a "key box" installed under the dash, and these have been known to cause issues as well. If you suspect the concern to be related to a remote start it may not be a bad idea to have it checked or removed to complete diagnosis. I hope this information has been helpful. Let me know if you need further assistance or clarification on any of this. Have a great day!

Will a bad key ignition switch effect the inderctor light on the dishboard

New keys with cylinder may not have a transponder chip , or new keys will need to be programmed. you will require two keys equipped with proper transponder for your vehicle, and either new keys cloned with the old transponders. If you have lost the original keys , you will need someone to remove the original keys from the pcm , than marry the 2 new keys to the pcm. If you have an original key , try placing it by the lock cylinder when attempting to start with the key supplied with the new ignition cylinder.

Why does the security light flash even when key is on and engine will not start?

The security light flashing is the indicator. The fuel pump is disabled by the ECU because the immobilizer system does not recognize the transponder chip inside the key.

There could be several causes.
a. Either the transponder chip inside the key is bad, not programmed, or missing
b. The antennae that is located around the ignition lock is bad and/or not reading the transponder chip inside the key.
c. There is a wiring issue between the ECU and antennae.
d. The ECU is bad

You may want to seek out a qualified mechanic or automotive locksmith for help, not all mechanics and/or locksmiths are capable of handling the immobilizer systems on these vehicles. So be clear when discussing your problem to them and make sure they are capable of handling this type of problem.

If the key is not original, check to see if it is a cloned key. Some cloned keys use batteries, when the battery inside the key dies, it no longer communicates with the vehicle. Although it's not common, regular transponder chips can go bad, usually due to physical damage.

An immobilizer transceiver coil tester can be used to test the signal from the antennae at the lock cylinder.

If the ECU is determined to be bad, a used ECU with matching part numbers can be used as a replacement. Contrary to what a dealership or some shops may tell you, all that is required is an immobilizer reset service on the used, replacement, ECU to get it to function with your vehicle. A used ECU and an Immobilizer Reset Service is much cheaper than a new ECU from the dealer. Make absolutely sure that this is the problem before going this route though.

Car wont start or turn over have already changed oil sparkplugs and baterry. is there a mobilizer for the security system?

Yes, you have PATS II. There is a tranceiver on the ignition barrel and a transponder in every factory key. If the transceiver cannot read your key, the red security light will blink rapidly. If this happens, make sure you are using a factory key and there are no other factory keys near the switch. If it continues to blink rapidly, you might try removing the PATS ring from the key barrel and placing a factory key in the center of the ring. I have done this successfully in the past. If it works, tape up the key inside the ring and place it in the open space in the steering column shroud. Then remove the transponder from any other factory keys. You can then have keys made at a hardware store, as your one transponder inside the column will constantly respond to the PATS system.

The plastic part of my key broke where the key ring goes can i drill a small hole in the corner of it to put a key ring i dont want to do it if it will mess up the chip

You can buy an aftermarket key which is fairly cheap but make sure you have a master locksmith doing the key cutting and swapping the transponder/chip over.
