How do you change a tail light assembly on a 1989 Camry. The one I have seems to be missing some of the seals or gaskets around the part.

The Assembly I have seems to have some sort of glue around it perhaps to hold in on the car. The lens has some cracks in it. Is there a way to fix it to keep it from becoming worse.

SOURCE: Tail Assembly

Remove the interior trim panel that faces the taillamp.

Remove the 3 nuts from the studs that holds the lamp onto the body

Remove the wiring connector

Detach the clip at the top outer edge, and pull the lamp straight out.

Easy to do. Glad to help; and, thanks for choosing FixYa.

SOURCE: How do you replace rear tail light assembly?

Open the trunk and along the bottom of the tail light, there should be a Philips screw securing a cover piece. (your car may or may not have this piece)
With the cover off, there will be another 2 screws securing the bottom of the tail light assembly. Remove the screws and pull the bottom out and the top is held in by two retainers that should just slide right out

SOURCE: Change headlight on 2004 toyota

  1. 1

Release the hood latch and open the hood. Locate the headlight bulb that's out. This may be a good time to check all of your front lights and rears, too. Make sure to turn off the lights before you replace any.

  2. 2

Unplug the wire harness from the back of the headlight bulb.

  3. 3

Remove the rubber gasket protector cover the back of the headlight. This simply pulls off, and there's a marking stamped on it that indicates the top of it when you're ready to replace it.

  4. 4

Locate the locking spring on the back of the headlight. This is the tricky part--trying to get your head down in there to see which side it locks on. One side has a press-in lock on the spring, and the other side is hinged by a screw. Press the spring inward and upward to release it, then swing it back on the hinge to remove the old bulb.

  5. 5

Remove the old bulb and install the new one. There is only one way to insert the new bulb into the headlight assembly cavity correctly. Be sure to line it up properly. Also, do not touch the glass of the new bulb with your fingers. Halogen bulbs can be compromised or damaged altogether by oils and alkaline in your skin.

  6. 6

Replace the locking spring by pressing inward and downward to clip it onto the lock. Again, this may seem tedious, but it's actually harder to lock the spring than unlock it.

  7. 7

Replace the rubber gasket protector correctly. Press it inward all around to make sure it is sealed properly.

  8. 8

Plug the wire harness back into the headlight.

  9. 9

Turn on the lights and test the new bulb.

I have a 2001 e46 m3 and water is getting into the trunk and into the battery compartment . how do i fix this ???

Typical places for water entering the trunk is from the rubber gasket/seal around the tail light assemblies or the rubber gasket/seal around the edge of the trunk itself.
