check the connector at the brake switch located on the brake pedal lever arm if it is ok it is most likely a faulty switch

try tapping the hazard switch on and off a bunch of times fairly hard. these switches have a tendency to go bad and neither the hazards or turn signals will work

ljones, Did you check the "VEH stop" fuse in the left side instrument panel fuse box. There are 3 stop light fuses, 1 for all the stop lights located in the under hood fuse box. 2 in the left side IP fuse box. 1 for the upper stop light and 1 for the lower stop lights. The fuse box in the IP is where the upper and lower stop lights split. Let me know.
SOURCE: as so as i replace the brake light fuse and step
if the socket are good and youve checked the wiring it has too be the brake light switch

There is a flaw in the wiring of this model to the rear brake lights. Take it to a trusted mechanic if they follow the wires they will see where the sodder/connection has been broken. Jeep no longer uses this type of wiring. My mechanic said he got lucky and found the break, but if it happened again, he would have to replace ALL the wiring most likely.
FYI - I had this same problem about a year ago.
