You have 2/4/6 timing marks 180 degress out on exhaust or intake cam .

Did your special tool ?
Rotate the crankshaft using the J 42098 until the #1 cylinder is at 60 degrees before top dead center (BTDC).
Install theJ 42069 Crankshaft Locking Tool.
Rotate the crankshaft in the engine rotational direction (clockwise) using the J 42098 until the #1 cylinder is at top dead center (TDC) and tighten the lever arm to the water pump pulley flange.
Important: Ensure that the alignment of the crankshaft is not 180 degrees off. The alignment mark must align with the corresponding notches on the rear timing belt cover.
Install the 1-2 and 3-4 camshaft locks, the J42069-1 Timing Belt Alignment Kit and the J42069-2.
Important: Do not rotate the crankshaft if the camshafts are not locked in place with the 1-2 and 3-4 camshaft locks (J42069-1 and J42069-2).
Important: Do not rotate the camshafts unless the crankshaft is at 60 degrees BTDC or the valves may contact the crankshaft.
Loosen the tensioner pulley.
Remove the timing belt.

The timing chain has three distinct colored links, The two links with same color are for camshaft sprockets, intake and exhaust. The one single link color is for crank shaft. Good luck. You can see the marks on sprockets.

Piston hitting valve

The procedure is ti fit the timing belt properly. Did you start the process with the engine at TopDeadCenter on the compression stroke of number 1 cylinder? Something is terribly wrong, congratulations on testing the configuration by hand. I've seen what damage has been done by people that just hooked up the battery and wind it over. They had a smashing good time.

Pull all your spark plugs, put your finger over the number 1 spark plug hole and wind the engine over by until you find the compression stroke on number 1 cylinder. Keep turning slowly until you bring you crank timing mark to the timing indicator. You should be at TDC compression number 1 cylinder, you can check with a screw driver or piece of wire that the piston is at the top. Make sure you are winding the engine in its working direction. Now look at your camshaft timing marks and indicators, they should all line up. If the marks are out of line, correct them, do not move the crank.

Once you have everything lined up again and tensioned correctly. Turn over the engine by hand 2 FULL revolutions. Should be all good then.

What is compression supposed to be on 03 Saturn Vue

Generally speaking, compression should be around 100 psi and should not vary more than 20 percent between cylinders.
So if you have 80psi or 120psi the main point is any major difference between cylinders.
You can check with the dealer or your repair manual for the actual recommended number range.
