My Chrysler voyager 1997. Won't go into any gears unless revved a bit but won't stay in the gear and is making a whinning noise when in gear.

sounds like the selector box at fault but change the auto oil and filter with some treatment and this should solve youre problem

are u sure the alignment (side to side, up and down) of the trans on the bell housingis not out of spec, that will burn the bearings out very quickly.

sounds like first gear is shot.if so you got three choices one is to take to trans. shop ,repair yourself,or buy used trans and do a fast swap.

low on fluid!!!!
thats why its HUNTING !! & the whine is the pump !
Check it for burnt smell & disclouration!
as that could indicate burnt clutches & or bands!
