its a long process,you need a steering wheel puller, once its off take the hazard button assembly out, take the turn signal loose, pull old ignition out, carefully install new one, and reverse procedure and always if u get confused i would highly recomend
a chiltons manual they explain things great

take off the cover on the top and bottom of the steering column just behind the wheel. pop the tilt lever out simply just by grabbing it and give it a good tug. then once you have the new switch and you get in there your going to need an inverted torx socket to remove the small bolts that hold the switch to the column. do not move the gear on the new switch make sure it lines up exactly as the old one did!!!!!!!!!!!!

Happens all the time with 70's 80's and 90's GMC trucks. Replace the control module in the distributor cap.

if your key won't work ,the steering wheel has to come off to replace key switch - special tools needed - if the problem is engine not starting or cranking over - the electric switch the key rod goes down to is on the bottom of the steering column above brake pedal

the key switch or the actual switch ? do you mean the key? for the key u must dismantle the column. for the switch u must lower the column by removing the two bolts holding the column up and the switch is lower on the column next to the high beam switchwitch is held on by two 8mm bolts and two plugs

Yes, disconnect the battery. Remove the belt. Disconnect the wire leads from the rear of the alt. Remove the bolts. Reverse steps to install

sounds stupid, but try replacing the ingition seitvk, I had same problem with my 97 Jimmy, did everything you did befor replacing the ignition harness. bad wires in ignition switch sends low voltage to trans harness
