Could be other bad pulleys. Look at the belt inline with the pulleys. If one is bad, you will see it misaligned. With the belt off the pulleys should have very little to no play and should turn by hand smoothly.

SOURCE: HOW CAN I REMOVE THE BELT TENSIONEER FOR A 1997 BUICK LESABRE TO REPLACE THE BY PASS THAT GOES FROM THE TENSIONEER TO THE MOTOR

Look for the 1/2" square hole on the tensioner. That hole is were you place a 1/2" breaker bar, to relieve the tension, by pulling on the bar.

SOURCE: Replace belt tensioner pulley on 1994 buick skylark

You need to put a piece of wood underneath the oil pan and place a jack underneath the oil pan/motor, loosen the motor mounts that are next to the belts, then raise the motor enough to reveal the nuts/bolts for pulley...just dont raise the oil pan so high that you crush it or break something, only enough to be able to reach tension pulley...

I have a 1996 Buick Regal Custom with 3.8L engine. The serpentine belt keeps falling off and now the belt doesn't fit.

The tensioner should adjust and take the correct belt and tension it correctly. The reasons for belts coming off and worn / loose belt, wrong belt, tensioner not working, or incorrect belt alignment.

How do I replace the water pump pulley. it broke off.

If you view the other tensioners you will see one that can be loosened, it will allow for some play. Install the replacement belt and reset the tensioner so that it is snug. There should be a belt routing diagram under the hood.

Replace Alternator - Belt Tension Pulley

If the tensioner doesn't automatically reset to the proper position, then the spring in the tensioner arm is bad. Need to replace the tensioner assembly, in that case.

Serpatine belt comes off buick park ave. when driving through standing water

My bet is that one of the pulleys is misaligned. Could possibly be on the belt tensioner. Have you tried a new belt tensioner?

Also make sure the other pulleys do not have ANY play in them. Take the belt off and by hand check to see if you can wobble any of the pulleys.

If the shaft of any pulley is not perfectly aligned with the other pulleys, that pulley could cause the belt to slip off. Has the alternator, power steering pump, AC compressor been worked on or removed just prior to this happening? One of those might not have been reinstalled perfectly. A washer that is missing or in the wrong place can cause a belt to drift.

2000 BUICK LASABER CUSTOM REMOVE AN REPLACE

  • Hello, and thank you for the opportunity to assist you. Here is the serpentine diagram for a 2000 LaSaber. The only engine size for that year was a 3.8 which I have always thought of as an all around great engine.

My engine accessory belt came loose on a 98 buick lesabre with a 3800 engine. Can I loosen Alternator so it can slip back on?

There should be a TENSION PULLEY/ARM that accepts a large (3/4"?) wrench or cresent wrench. You rotate the pulley in the direction to loosen (its' tension) and get the belt back in place.
Sometime if the belt has ridden off the pulleys it will need to be replaced. Turn it so the "teeth" are on the outside and see if there are cracks in the rubber. Also look for wear marks on the pulleys or "rubber" that has come off the belt.
